Q&A: How can I get my Scorpion in cheerleading?

Question by cowlover64: How can I get my Scorpion in cheerleading?
I’ve been stretching daily trying to improve my scorpion and I can’t tell a difference. My legs are pretty flexible but my back is not. I need some back stretches as well as some scorpion stretches that will help me get it as soon as possible!

lay on the ground and put your arms out in front of you and push up. You’re chest should be off the ground and everything below is still on the floor. This stretches your back. And what REALLY helped my back flexibility is doing a back bend off the wall. Walk down the wall until you get to the floor. Hold it for a second then fall on your back or stand up. You also need you’re right split for a scorpion- it helps A LOT. I got my scorpion on my first try because I had a right split (almost, anyway :P)

That video has a ton of stretches, it helped me a bit (:

How can I get my scorpion in cheerleading?

Question by The Energizer Bunny: How can I get my scorpion in cheerleading?
I want to get my scorpion. I’m having trouble. I know that I need to pull my right leg up, but I keep grabbing my right foot/ankle with my right hand and it doesn’t seem to work. I get it up a little bit, but I can’t get my left arm up to grab my leg. Is there another way to get it?

Make sure you do a bridge stretch to stretch your back. You can do this by laying down on your back with your feet laying flat about 6 inches away from your butt. Your hands should be facing palms down on the floor by your ears. Push up into a position so that only your feet and hands are touching the ground. Hold for 15 seconds and then come down. Do this 3-5 more times.

Also, you want your leg to be higher in a scorpion so whatever leg you will be standing on while doing your scorpion should be the leg that you stretch the most. Keep stretching the standing leg so that you will be able to do the side split comfortably. For example, if your left foot will be on the ground while your right foot is in a scorpion you will want to have your left side split. Best of luck!
