What can I do to improve my cheerleading?

I am looking ot try out for cheeleading at my highscool. I have a ton of school spirit and am very friendly. I ‘m pretty good when it comes to gymnastics too. I just need to know what else I need to work on. Are there any exercises or stretches I can do to improve? Jumps, stretches, dance technique, cheer? I want to know everything possible! Please and thank you!

i’m not really sure about it but i’m pretty sure you should practice stretching maybe back hand spring or cart wheels

So I’ve been working my butt off practicing for cheerleading tryouts. My toe touch is getting better, but my herkie still sucks my leg doesn’t go high enough.I’m even having trouble with arms(motions) too. It’s like i cant get it.Nobody in my family has ever done cheerleading so it’s not like i can ask them for help. I asked a cheerleader from another school too help, but i feel shes not helping good enough.I went to her this week and she wanted me do a double toe touch and i’m like i cant even get a plain toe touch good how am i supposed to do a double one. I did that the whole time i was there, while she ate food and talked on the phone.And the week before that her and her friends just laughed at me the whole time i was there.I realy want to make the cheerleading team so can someone please help me. PLEASE give tips

Also, are your shoulders supposed to be up when your about to do any kind of jump?

i cant give u direct help because i have no clue what ur talkin about but my friend is a cheerleader and he has alot of the same problems and he talks to a coach about itany coach will do

I was in cheer in eighth and ninth grade, but didn’t do anything with it my tenth. I know if I put my mind to it, I can put the effort and dedication i need, but what should i do to be sure I have a fighting chance?

I have a nice base to my jumps, my set up is fine and i can almost do my side splits (my center splits is still off.) I just started and my jumps are already improving. But my ankles arent very steardy. Also, i dont know how to improve my backbends and trust myself more (when doing anything that i have to throw myself into like back handsprings) What can I do?

strech everyday, even when ur not at practice, come home and practice jumps for 10 min. If u have your slits, your jumps will be awsome

I’ve just been cheerleading for the past 4-5 weeks and the coach made me a flyer today. But I couldn’t stand up straight for anything. I’m a decent base adn front spot but I really do want to improve on being a flyer. I think I’m really afraid of falling and them not catching me. Any tips, and should I be mad at myself over not being able to get it right today? Or does practice really make perfect????

I don’t know anything about cheerleading, but I’m sure your coach does. And if s/he made you a flyer, he’s got to be aware of your strengths and limitations. He knows exactly how well you do at the flyer stuff. He will help you improve. Also, I’d ask other teammates. They’ve probably been through this before and will be able to offer suggestions.

Umm well I’m a base and backspot, and I can tell you from experience it is MUCH easier to toss the girls higher if the load in ON THEIR TOES!!! It helps send their weight STRAIGHT up in stead of out…ZO ther than that….make sure your bounce in good from the ground…but that all depends if you are doing a load in, pause and then shot, or shotting as soon as your feet hit…from the base perspective the girls go higher if you shot the as soon as they hit the bases hands. To make sure you go high, ride the pop.. ALL THE WAY UP… our flyer used to kick out before she hit the top and it took a good two feet off her toss, but ride it until you feel yourself coming back down, and when you’re coming out pop into a cradle postion…. ALSO to add height make sure you push off the bases shoulders when they shoot you up….other than that, just practice, Practice, and PRACTICE!!! Good luck!!!
