how can i improve my jumps for cheerleading?

Question by Annoymous: how can i improve my jumps for cheerleading?
So I’ve been working my butt off practicing for cheerleading tryouts. My toe touch is getting better, but my herkie still sucks my leg doesn’t go high enough.I’m even having trouble with arms(motions) too. It’s like i cant get it.Nobody in my family has ever done cheerleading so it’s not like i can ask them for help. I asked a cheerleader from another school too help, but i feel shes not helping good enough.I went to her this week and she wanted me do a double toe touch and i’m like i cant even get a plain toe touch good how am i supposed to do a double one. I did that the whole time i was there, while she ate food and talked on the phone. And the week before that her and her friends just laughed at me the whole time i was there.I realy want to make the cheerleading team so can someone please help me. PLEASE give tips

Also, are your shoulders supposed to be up when your about to do any kind of jump?

jump more often. Right in the middle of class get up on you desk and see if you can jump all the way to the door. Also buy sum moon-shoes. I’ve heard that they enable serious jumping skillz.

Don’t listen to these other people they are just making fun of you. i’m a cheerleader too. It’s great that you want to get better at this sport. If you’ve ever heard the old sane “Practice makes perfect” they are right. Practice with your free time. Remeber to strecth out A LOT. you don’t want to pull anything, and It’ will get you more felexiblity for your jumps. practiceing the splits will really help you with your toe-touches. sit the way that you are suposed to do a herkie and then pull your leg up in that postion so you can get it haigh when you are up it the air. as for your sharpness with your moves, stand in front of a mirror and prctice those all the time. practiceing the basic table-top, toch-down, high-v, low v, steeple, right k, left k stuff will help you with the over all cheer. and just rember to strech out really good and don’t push yourself to far (if it hurts so much that you are howling in pain i think you should stop lol) Good luck with the tryouts!!
