How do I improve cheerleading/flyer flexibility?

Question by littleflyer2009: How do I improve cheerleading/flyer flexibility?
If y’all could give me some tips on how to become more flexible, I would appreciate it! I am a flyer for my school’s squad. Any stretches would be helpful, but I would especially like stretches having to do with cheerleading or flying (the cheerleaders they put in the air).

I have about 2 weeks to become as flexile as humanly possible. Time is not an issue, so give me any advice/websites/online resources that will help!

I’m in J.V. cheerleading, and I really want to improve my jumps, specifically my toe-touch and front hurdler. I can do the right and left splits, but not the center, so tips on how to improve my center splits would also be great.

You really have to stretch. Just keep stretching and stretching and stretching, before you know it your jumps will be perfect.

I was kicked off last Fall due to a mooning incident, multiple cases of public displays of affection, a few dress code violations and a couple of other incidents. However, I would like to re-join the squad for next fall. I still practice the routines and just as good if not better than most of the girls. Try-outs are two weeks from now and they start practice this summer. When I went to sign up, the coach was “well I am not so sure, let me talk to the director of student activities”. I told them that I have been going to charm school and my daddy has been stricter, and that I deserve a second chance.

My daddy is not being much help, he was like well I made my bed now I have to lie in it or something so I said “why can’t you do something”, and he just says there are lots of ways I can get exercise maybe I can try out for a sport or something, but I am better at cheerleading than any sports. I am his little girl and maybe he does not like me cheering.

yes you can you have to practice more and go and practice with the cheerleaders from diffrent schools infact i am one so take my advice and practice and practice with other pepole and your self email me for more help at missemenem2007@yahoo.com

I’ve never made the cheerleading team before. I’ve failed at tryouts two years in a row, and I’ve missed my freshman tryouts because I was out of town. But I’m not giving up. I started a cheer tumbling class a couple of months ago to work on my skills, but what can I do to help out my tumbling and my jumps? (like exercises) Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Practice makes perfect but the warm up before the practice is manditory. You need to get your muscles ready for the workout so that you don’t pull anything the wrong way and so that they will respond better to what you want them to do. Then be sure you are eating the proper food nutrients so that they can do the work out you need. Skipping breakfast and eating junk food for lunch won’t make your body respond properly Be sure you eat a good breakfast and a well balanced lunch and fruits or veggies for snacks in between them. Those time periods are the most important of the day for nourishment so that your body will function its best performance. Then just practice. Don’t settle for second best but go for the gold in your own workout. If you are not pleased then no one else will be pleased with you.

How do I improve my cheerleading jumps?

I am trying out for cheerleading agian in august. Last season I cheered but my jumps stunk. I need help on my toe touches, pikes, and herkies. I can do a right leg split if that helps at all. I need to learn how to improve them in 3 weeks. Please no links to websites.

With jumps in cheerleading, a lot of the strength comes from the ankles and calves.

Start by doing some calf stretches each morning and evening by doing forward lunges and toe-touches.
For your ankles, work them side-to-side and make circles with them anytime you are sitting (in class, on the bed, watching TV) and you will build your strength.

Once you have strengthened these, focus on using the ankles as a “spring” and imagine you are being pulled up by a string on top of your head. This will allow your body to remain upright and “pop” the way it should.
