Anyone know of a male cheerleader that could help a female learn basic flying skills?

Question by lyssac08: Anyone know of a male cheerleader that could help a female learn basic flying skills?
I need to learn to fly on a guy for tryout at my college, and am in search of a male to help out. I cheer currently in shelby twp. on an all-star team, but the guys at my gym are little. I’m kind of at a loss of where to search for the oh so scarce males in the cheerleading world.

a good cartwheel and roundoff, and upper body strength so you can learn a back hand spring and back tuck, and so you can hold up other girls at the base.

What skills do I need to be a cheerleader in high school?

Question by Jess: What skills do I need to be a cheerleader in high school?
I used to do gymnastics, so I have some basic things like:
– round off backspring back tuck/layout
– front to back (front tuck walkout, round-off backspring, back tuck)
– aerial cartwheels (no handed cartwheels)
– round-off back tucks
I can do these on the gymnastics floor only, though, maybe sometimes on the grass at school. In cheerleading, do you need to be able to do it on the gym floor?
Oh yeah, and I could probably also get all my splits back.

heyy!!

you already have a pretty good tumbling ability (round-off backhandspring is very important for highschool cheer)!!

things you MUST do as often as possible to ensure a spot on the squad are:

-stretching (will help LOADS with your jumps)
-right, left, middle splits (what we do at gymnastics is lay parallel to a wall, then turn to the wall with your butt on the wall and do the splits on the wall…the pull of gravity brings your legs down, and its less harsh on your knees)
-straddle
-pike
-arms
-back (backbends work best…but put your legs together and make them straight for an even better stretch)

-Conditioning (helps with jumps A TON, tumbling and stunts)
-a good amount of crunches…NOT situps.
-lots of lunges
-running at least 3/4 mile..a full mile is best
-JUMPS!!!!! if you already dont know the names of all the jumps..then look on google for instructions that would be more clear than mine (lol)
-If you live near a beach…then the BEST place to do jumps and running is in the sand (we do this in volleyball too). when you are used to the toughness of jumping in the sand…on land you are ten times better…or more. if people tell you to practice on a trampoline DO NOT listen…it makes your jumps worse.

-Eat right
-Eat lots of protein to build muscle

-Dancing
-if you have a video where they teach you dances…USE IT…the more you practice learning dances, the better and faster you will get at it. Nothing is mer fustrating than not being able to pick up a dance at try-outs.

-Motions
-STRONG.
-NO broken fists
-tight.

-Cheering
-work on cheering from your diaphram…NOT your throat.
-put your hand on your stomach to make sure you are cheering from your diaphram
-FACIALS…this means working the crowd…smile smile smile…but no cheerleader on crack crap.

-Tumbling
-keep going to your gym and working on more extensive tumbling passes

If you have ANY other questions please please please ask me…im sure you will do an awesome jobb : ]
