Tips and workouts to be a good cheerleader?

Question by Ashlyn Frix: Tips and workouts to be a good cheerleader?
I started going to cheer class at a gym just last night, and tryouts for the school squad are in just about two months. I don’t have very good skills, my cartwheel & roundoff are fairly good, but my toe touches, hurkey’s, (jumps) need work. Anyone have any ideas for what could help me get good in such a little time? Really wanna make the squad!!! Thaaaanks.(:

a LOT of running. I mean 5 miles a week. If you’re going to be doing floor routines and tumbling, you definitly need to work on your endurance. Also, a lot of leg and upper arm excersizes like knee-ups, whips, and lunges. here’s a video that will help you jump higher as well.

(These helped me a lot.)

I would work on your over all strength. Lift weights and focus on your arms, legs and your core. The typical push ups, crunches, bench presses, pull ups, will work. Don’t forget stamina. You are going to be doing a 3 minute routine non stop. Start running and throw in some sprints too, they will help.
Work on your arm motions and your jumps too, it won’t do you just focus on working out and forget to practice.

Do you have a local college or other high school nearby that has male cheerleaders? Go and speak to them and they can give you an idea as to what specific machines to use or drills to do.

If can already tumble then ur good. Also if you have a trampoline use that to do ur jumps. When I joined cheerleading my parents bought me a trampoline so I could practice my flips. Also any basic cheer stretch will help. Even the splits is a stretch. Some ppl say it isnt but it is.
