What stretches can i do to stretch my hips for cheerleading?

Question by Breanna: What stretches can i do to stretch my hips for cheerleading?
in cheerleading practice we do these hip flexor exercises where we sit in a straddle and raise one leg at a time to improve our jumps but it really hurts my hips. can you give me other hip flexor exercises to do? pictures or demo videos would be nice. thank you!

What are some good stretches and exercises for Cheerleading?

Question by Kirsten: What are some good stretches and exercises for Cheerleading?
I want to try out for the Cheerleading team next year. What are some good stretches and exercises that would make my jumps higher and overall better? Also, what should I stretch to improve my back hand spring? Thanks!

for your backhandspring you need to stretch out your back arms and shoulders. do bridges and rock back on your hands to stretch out everything

for jumps you need to streatch your legs a ton! do splits stradles and sumo stretches (bend your knees with your legs apart and your hands on your knees. use your hands to stretch your legs apart) this makes your jumps higher and better over all. Good Luck

Make sure you do a bridge stretch to stretch your back. You can do this by laying down on your back with your feet laying flat about 6 inches away from your butt. Your hands should be facing palms down on the floor by your ears. Push up into a position so that only your feet and hands are touching the ground. Hold for 15 seconds and then come down. Do this 3-5 more times.

Also, you want your leg to be higher in a scorpion so whatever leg you will be standing on while doing your scorpion should be the leg that you stretch the most. Keep stretching the standing leg so that you will be able to do the side split comfortably. For example, if your left foot will be on the ground while your right foot is in a scorpion you will want to have your left side split. Best of luck!

Hello =) One exercise that I found works extremely well is leg lifts. Sit on the floor with your legs in a ‘V’ and put your hands next to your hips and slightly behind you. Lift one leg about a foot off the ground and hold it for about ten seconds then lower and repeat with the next leg. They’re difficult but they work!
Also to improve flexibility (and your jumps and kicks) you could a kick drill. Kick with your right leg to your right side 10 times then to the front 10 times then switch to your left leg to the front 10 times and finally to the left 10 times. Dont pause between your kicks. You sort of have to bounce while you do it.
And practice practice practice! The more you do them the better and easier they’ll get!

Hope this helps =)
