Im in 8th grade moving onto high school this year. I really want to make the high school cheerleading squad and I know it won’t take just a few months, so does anyone know how I could improve my cheerleading skills? Im a guy so Im mainly stunting and/or tumbling. THANKS!

mabye join gymnastics .. to improve ur skills or mabee just try do some exercise to make u strong and fexible .. search on google or youtube for some good streches/exercises u can do

I just ended my first season in varsity cheerleading (no previous experience) and I really want to do more with it and join an open squad. I’m 17 so with being older and having only four/five months of experience, I’m not that good. I’m not that flexible and I’m really slow at picking up new dances… Does anyone have advice on stretching/dancing/anything with cheerleading that I should know? I’m really dedicated to cheer and I definitely want to keep doing it.

I’ve been a cheerleader for about 3 years

First of all, i’m glad that you are motivated and dedicated to cheerleading.

For stretching i would recommend that you stretch 15-30 minutes a day. Please make sure you jog or do jumping jacks before you stretch to warm up ur muscles. also, don’t force yourself to do certain stretches because you can physically harm yourself and strain or tear a muscle.

For dancing, I would just practice. Have someone make up a couple of 8 counts and teach them to you. the more you practice the better you will get at picking up choreography

Also practice your motions and make sure that they are sharp. Sloppy motions look terrible! Practice them in the mirror to make sure they look good

For jumps, I would do core training, like crunches. Your abs are important when doing jumps. Also, don’t just stretch and do sit ups and expect your jumps to be good, you actually ahve to practice your jumps too. Remember to point your toes when doing any jump!! I know ankle weight help improve your jumps but be careful not to do bad forms and create bad habits when you use them
I bought some ankle weights a couple weeks ago and i already see a slight improvement, ๐Ÿ™‚

You should take some tumbling classes!

Don’t be afraid to ask a cheerleader or a coach for help. If you want to improve your toe touch, ask someone who has an amazing toe touch for help.

just stretch e v e r y e v e r y single dayy. sit in like a herkie position, and a double niner position, and russian, and just stretachh in like every way ๐Ÿ™‚
plus, u havd to been good to make varisty in the first place. . we just don’t pick any girll or guy* xD

Next year, I’m planning on trying out for cheerleading again.
Last year, I didn’t make it because I wasn’t sharp enough.
Please don’t give tell me to take dance classes or anything because right now, my parents are financially tight, so that’s kind of not an option.

What I can say if you are not suppose to attend dance classes is to go to the gym! I think sharpness is your upper body strength, so that might be the case for you. Many people aren’t sharp enough because their upper body strength is pretty weak.
Try to do some push-ups! That will help you also!

Go to the gym as much as you can, and you can be more fit and more active!
Also, go to youtube or any video website and learn some combos that they have! It’s really easy!

I REALLY want to improve my cheerleading jumps because tryouts are in like 3 weeks and I heard that you need abs to help pull your legs up and get higher. I also need to knwo toher ways to improve my jumps.

lemon squeezers
get on the ground and bring your legs up to ur chest and at the same time you lift your neck and upper body up.
They work great and get your stomach toned good
* its not just about exercising you have to eat right also.
