Cheerleading Help: How exactly do you roll your hips when doing a toe touch?

Question by cheerleader08: Cheerleading Help: How exactly do you roll your hips when doing a toe touch?
Ok, so tryouts are next week, and like I said before, my toe touch on a trampoline are fine, but on the ground I still can’t get them up that high. I’ve researched and I can’t really figure out how to roll my hips in the jump. Does anyone have any idea how to roll their hips? Tips would be greatly appreciated!

You don’t necessarily “roll” your hips. They kind of shift forward. It automatically happens so you don’t have to worry about it. Rolling your hips won’t get you higher, but it will help your straddle. Try this to improve your jump height. Put a chair backwards in front of u. hold on to the back. Use it to push yourself up and do a toe touch. You can also have someone stand behind you and hold your waist, then jump while they lift. Or you could face them, put your arms on top of theirs (their arms should be palm up, yours should be palm down) and grab their elbows. Have them do the same. Then use them to lift yourself when you jump. Don’t 4get 2 point your toes and keep your head up. Practice your splits a lot. It will definitely help your height. I have a better jump than the four professional gymnasts on my team =) Good luck!

    Jumps are my best thing.

Especially toe touches (I’m very close to making my feet clap together over my head.)

You don’t really roll your hips.
    It’s all just an illusion.
What you need to focus on is sitting in your jumps while keeping your chest up.
If you reach forward, meaning trying to make your hands touch your feet instead of the other way around, then your feet barely get off the ground.
That’s probably where the term roll your hips comes from.

A good way to practice this is to try and do a toe touch without using your hands. You’ll easily see if you are putting your chest forward.
Also, STRETCH!! It may hurt, but it works.

    Hope this helps!
    And good luck at tryouts.

Ok your gonna feel silly doing it but it helped me out alot! Sit on your bottom on the floor with your legs out like how they would be in the air.. then do your arm swing like normal and roll back on your tailbone and kick your legs behind your arm. It ain’t easy but if you get that down you’ll be point for sure. GOOD LUCK @ TRYOUTS!

Ankle weights are a great help in strengthening your legs for toe touches, Even if you practice on the trampoline with them it makes it that tiny bit harder. Also sit in a straddle sit on the ground and practice lifting your legs off the ground with pointed toes and holding it because that’s the position you want to hit in them.
    Hope this helps.
