Q&A: What do i need to do to prepare myself for college cheerleading?

Question by MichiganChiq: What do i need to do to prepare myself for college cheerleading?
I am a freshman in high school and has been cheering since 4th grade. When i go to college i would love to be a cheerleader. I am currently a flier, 4’10 and 89 pounds. Would it be a good idea to start taking up gymnastics classes soon? I have no experience what so ever with stunts nd flips. Where can i take gymnastics classes? What else should i do to prepare myself??

Question by Emilee: How to make myself more flexible (cheerleading.)?
I was planning on trying out for cheerleading during basketball season and since im going into it with no experience, i figured it would make sense to get a jump on things. What is the quickest way to make myself flexible? What should I do or not do? Also, if you have any cheerleading tips.. that would be great

Thanks! (;

Q&A: What can I do to prepare myself to be ready for cheerleading tryouts in July?

Question by snowangel03ak: What can I do to prepare myself to be ready for cheerleading tryouts in July?
I’m trying out for cheerleading for the first time, and I want to know things that I can do over the summer to prepare me for try outs..like streches, excersies, & should I take some sort of class at a gymnastic place?

Best answer:

Answer by Candi
Yes, gymnastics is always a plus. What you really need to do is find someone who is already a cheerleader, or who was a cheerleader, to couch you over the summer. They can teach you everything you need to know, so that way you will be prepared when try-outs come.

How to teach myself to become a cheerleader?

Question by Miss: How to teach myself to become a cheerleader?
I’m really flexible and have always wanted to do the stunts, etc. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me. My drawback is never having the opprotunity to try cheerleading, and and that I have broken my wrists a number of times and so am not as strong there as before (I’m working on it). For example how would i learn how to tumble? Thanks 🙂
Also any other activites or style of dance you think I may enjoy, I am 19.

How can i motivate myself to be a cheerleader??

Question by Lacy L: How can i motivate myself to be a cheerleader??
i’m in 8th grade and 13. i live in clovis (near fresno) california. i really want to try out to be a cheerleader for my freshman year. i dont want to be a prep or anything, it honestly does look fun. anyway, i dont like taking gymnastics, cheerleading, or dance classes (i know from experience) but i really need to learn all the flips. i got some info online, but it only helped me halfway. i made a list of all the things i need to learn like backflip and all that. basically, the only thing i know how to do is a roundoff and a handstand and i can’t walk when i’m doing a handstand. i kinda wanna keep it a secret to my friends and family so it can surprise them. any tips on how i can boost my trust in myself cuz that’s one of the reasons i cant do some stuff like the backbend while standing. im afraid i’ll fall and break my head. any stretching tips or ways to get me accepted into the squad if i’ve never cheered before. oh, and if i make the squad, how can i afford those expensive clothes?
