Q&A: What do i need to do to prepare myself for college cheerleading?

Question by MichiganChiq: What do i need to do to prepare myself for college cheerleading?
I am a freshman in high school and has been cheering since 4th grade. When i go to college i would love to be a cheerleader. I am currently a flier, 4’10 and 89 pounds. Would it be a good idea to start taking up gymnastics classes soon? I have no experience what so ever with stunts nd flips. Where can i take gymnastics classes? What else should i do to prepare myself??

    Hello,
For college cheerleading your going to want to get your tumbling skills perfected on foam matts!
also for college cheerleading you need to have experience with partner stunting, your not going to want to take gymnastic classes because they have bars beam and vault which will be absolutely no use to you in college cheerleaing but you are going to want to get into a tumbling or allstar cheer class. to find an allstar gym near you go to google and type in your town or a town near yours and then allstar cheerleading. as far as tumbling I would set short and long term goals like freshman year get your back hand spring and r/o backhandspring sophomore year start working toward your standing tuck and r/o backhandspring tuck also your standing backhandspring tuck, junior year get your layout and start working fulls and senior year start working standing fulls and doubles and you will have an awesome shot at college cheer, and you will have a good shot at a scholarship! for partner stunting just find a good stunting partner at your gym ( when you find one ) and start working new tricks all of that is the fun part, never give up, dont get frustrated and keep cheering girl you can do it!!
