Question by mo0ink: Why do girls think cheerleading is a sport?
Cheerleading is a primary purpose is to support the “athletic teams.” In other words, if cheerleading was sport, why does it support or encourages other athletic teams?
For instance, football cheerleaders, basketball, hockey ect.
Another reason why cheerleading is not sport is because there is no “clear” way of defining a winner. For instance, judges decide the winner and awards the points.
Competitive cheerleading is no exception—-it’s just “dancing.”
Although they say it is hard work, it might be, but chess is also hard work and pretty much everyday life is. Gymnastics is a sport, because it is governed by it’s own rules and customs. They have obstacles that they must overcome. For instance, they have the balance beam, uneven bars, ect.
Cheerleading does not.
In all other sports, they have a ball or a puck to pass to each other and we can clearly see a winner. Cheerleading does not, only the sidelines where they “cheer” a sport like basketball or football. For those who believe other words, why does a sport cheer another sport on the sidelines?
Cheerleading is not a sport. I am not trying to hurt your ego, just using logic.
Also, is society being dumbed down?
Random when you say people are dumb, does that include yourself?
Seriously, get real.

A sport is defined as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Now granted Cheerleading is done on the sidelines for many other sports, they still go out and compete like everybody else. It requires skill and power. It seems to fit the definition to me.
Cheerleading competitions are governed by it’s own rules as well, they have a certain amount of time, have to stay on the mat, have 2 parts a cheering part and the dancing/throwing part.
