What are some good arms exercises for cheerleading?

Question by Diana C: What are some good arms exercises for cheerleading?
My niece just made an all-star cheer squad. She is 8 yrs old. I was wondering what kind of exercises should she do to build up arm muscles so that she can do a handstand and things like that.

I don’t do cheerleading, I do sport aerobics which is pretty much the same thing. some good exersises that will help are pushups (especially trisceps) and L-sits

  1. Cheerleader:)

Really just push ups or carrying heavy items from grocery stores and stuff. But im not very strong i can hold about 20 lbs and i can hold a solid handstand for about 10 seconds *im a cheerleader* and i know 8 yr old probably dont want to do push ups so have her practice them and hold her legs lightly and in time she will be able to hold one up by herself 🙂

Push ups are really good, but she may not be ready for full push ups. Have her do push ups from her knees. Once she is strong enough, she can do the push ups from an exercise ball – placing the exercise ball under her hips or thighs. From there, she can progress to full push ups.

She can also do the “Downward Dog” position in yoga. That is a really great way to strengthen the arms, and gain flexibility in the body overall.
