Question by Brittany M: I am a cheerleader going to competition, how could my squad raise money to go?
Competition is in Feb.
Need the money before then.
Might get competition hoodies.
Need to be the best of the best.

My daughter’s competitive team had a Chili Dinner. They got the local Steak N Shake to donate all the Chili (thus costing them nothing) and a local grocery store to donate liters of soda. Additionally, each coach and parents of the girls made up baskets of different things for a silent auction. Worked great and raised a lot of $ $ $ . The key is getting things donated (i.e., one local hotel donated a night’s stay in the jacuzzi suite! and one of the parent’s put it in a Mommy & Daddy night out basket – complete with babysitting coupon, etc).

Have a bake sale, with the holidays coming up people are always looking for a short cut. Sell roses at school functions or after church (with the church’s permission of course), make fund raiser cans and go to local businesses and ask if you can set them out and make sure someone goes and collects the money at least twice a week. Good places to do that would be gas stations, banks, grocery stores, the library, maybe even local retailers like wal-mart. Wal-Mart is also another option in itself. Go the manager and explain to them what you need the money for and see if they will make a charitble contribution for your cause (they do this all the time). Also check with the local businesses that sponsor sports for your school. If they are willing to be a sponsor for football, basketball, etc. then they are probably willing to help you out with your cause too!! Good Luck and I hope you do well at the competition!! : )

I have some ideas for you. My daughter is a Brown Belt in Kenpo Karate and attends a training camp every June in Las Vegas with several other teenagers in her Karate group. We have done lots of fund-raising stuff. I don’t know what the climate is like where you live, but we live in Arizona and it is warm all year round so keep that in mind when you read this list of ideas.

    1) Car washes! This ALWAYS makes money.
    2) Rummage / Garage sale. Have everyone involved bring stuff to a predetermined location and have a Friday-Sunday sale. All the proceeds go toward the group fund. Make sure you appoint a trustworthy treasurer to handle the money. By the way, advertise it in the local paper and your turnout will DOUBLE!
    3) Check out http://www.allstar1.com We did cookie dough one year and made enough money to pay for half of our camp.
    4) If you have a video camera, you could film a short performance and then have everyone in the squad say a short speech as to why the competition is important to them. Then you make a DVD of this and send it to everyone’s family members, kindly asking for a donation. You would be amazed at what you might get. We did this one year and got almost enough money to pay for one person’s whole trip including food, etc.

    Good Luck!

High I cheer in College and I am a UCA cheerleder. A wonderful way to raise money would be to put on a golf tournament. This is the best investment every. I cheer for the university of memphis all girl and we don’t get much support from our school so it our job to raise money. having one golf tournament alone we raise over $ 10,00o. We had everything donated to us if you would like more details you can contact me. If you are going ot high school nationals. its in febuary and the time of year for a golf tournament is running short. maybe have car washes ervery weekend til it gets cold. i dont know where your form but if you get with you local grocery store like here we have a kroger and we get 50% of all profits that is saved form using kroger plus card and its not just the parents using it we can get friends and other family to use a kroger car and get 50% of there profits too.Have a wonderful day
