r u in high school or middle school? anyways i am in middle and i am going to try out 2. i think my weight is an issue to since i am about 107lbs and i keep thinking all the other girls are 80-90lbs. RELAX u can always be a base. all u have to do is work on ur arm strength. do lots of push ups and other arm excersises. work on ur jumps and try doing a backhand spring (with supervision of course) if u can do a backhand spring u r almost guarenteed a spot. REMEMBER TO SMILE. oh and dont worry about ur weight i have a friend who is probably between 120-130 or 135lbs and she’s on the squad but she has a SUPER nice attitude so theres a little tip for u

It totally stinks that your weight is getting in the way of becoming a cheerleader! Actually I am glad you posted because it is a bit concerning that your weight is158 and you are 5’3.

Don’t panic and remember your health is #1.

Your BMI calculates to 28 which is somewhat concerning because it puts you at a greater risk for health problems down the road, and I am hoping you want to be on this earth for a long, long, long time!

So what to do? I would talk to my doctor and see if there are any medical reasons to explain your current weight (i.e., thyroid problems) and then I would ask if they could refer me to a dietitian or nutritionist for some meal planning help. Sometimes just tweaking your diet will help you get down to a healthier weight.

REMEMBER: being a cheerleader means being healthy so DO NOT go on any fad diets, starve yourself or engage in any unhealthy/dangerous eating behaviors! The short term and long term consequences can be grave so I would never never never go there!

I wish you well, stay healthy and keep reaching for your goals!

    I hope this helps,

    glitter.

Ok, Weight doesnt matter and i am a cheerleader i have been all my life. stretch a lot and run a lot and u dont have to be flexible its not gymnastics its cheer and its ok im 74 pounds and 4’9′ and im 11 so it doesnt even matter

ok so im a jv high school cheerleader(hince the name cheergrl! :)) and i tought 4 the longest time that my weight was going to get in the way of me being able to cheer.

no one thought i could doo it since i am 5’10 (a great back spot!) and weigh around 190 pounds but ever since i made the team, i proved to everyone who doubted me that i could do it && i was soo happy to prove them all wrong!

but enough dr. phil, u should be happy with the weight ur @ now but in case ur not…i would try eating healthier and exercising like on the treadmill and the eliptical and try to lose some weight and gain a little arm muscle to make it easier for u to be able 2 do gymnastics!

GOOD LUCK! and remember try your best and be urself! and also…a little advice for tryouts:

its natural 2 be nervous but dont be overly nervous and look/act confident! and mae friends with the other cheerleaders already on the team and smile a lot. it shows the judges that you can get along with the team better and you would make a cheerleader.
