What is the allure of BEING a cheerleader?

Question by Zipperhead: What is the allure of BEING a cheerleader?
Do you really crave attention.. or is it the socializing or the “popularity”… I honestly don’t understand the reasons…
please enlighten me… and I’m not being sarcastic here or implying anything.
Cheerleaders or past cheerleaders encouraged to respond….
Thanks

Suspect,
I was never a cheerleader.
That attracts a certain personality type. You can meet a person when they are middle aged and you can tell that he or she was a cheerleader. He/she is bouncy and social and tries to arrange parties and other functions. He/she loves the spotlight. I don’t think he/she craves attention as much as expects it. It is a demanding job and those with the energy to do so, naturally, take it on.

I imagine it is a lot like most other team sports. Part of the draw is probably the camaraderie, the competition, the sense of belonging to a team, fun, chance to workout/be athletic, etc.

    I’m a cheerleader……ok really I’m a spectator who cheers from the bleachers.

Never had an interest in being on a squad to do it.

I suppose the cheerleaders are meant to get the crowds going to hype up their teams. So they are sort of like a team mascot……….. Or teamsupporters trying to lead the crowd into verbally supporting their team.

I dont know, but let me tell you a story:
the other day I was drving with my “boyfriend” and these two little uppity b**ches pulled up next to me in a red s**t stang. I was in my beater at the time. They started flirting with my boyfriend and saying “we know you like it.” I just about got outta my car and smacked those s**ts silly. I said “meet me here at 3pm tomorrow and I’ll blow you away in my Trans Am.” I followed with “Did your daddy buy you that, who*es”?
I mean it infuriated me. how disrespectful. Yeah they think they’re all that and a bag of chips. But all they are is a more toned down version of a sL*t. I mean, all they do is run around in tights and mini-skirts doin the splits for the jocks. I rest my case.
And btw i am not a hater, I am smokin’ hott. I don’t need to be a superficial jeering snob though to get what i want.

I wasn’t a cheerleader, but I agree with a lot of the other answers in that there’s a certain type of person fit for it and that it is just like any other team sport, although wrongfully not considered a sport. I admired the original cheerleading squad when I was a freshman in high school. They were immature kids just like everyone else in the school, but when it came down to it, they ran their laps, hoisted each other up in the air, practiced day & night & performed in the cold rain wearing their skirts. They perfected their backhand springs; they really worked for whatever they got, supporting the school with fundraisers and then going to cheeleading competitions.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that they had the opportunity to be closer to the football players than any other teams naturally got. A lot of times, the cheerleader & football players form brother/sister relationships besides the boyfriend/girlfriend ones people usually already expect.

Either way, I was perfectly fine on the basketball, dance, and track teams. The football coach at my school made his players also wrestle for stamina and run track for speed and agility. He was also the coach for the track team. So, I was actually on the same team as football players. I also eventually stopped running & was the team manager.

There really is nothing like spending time with people your own age in an organized but just as spontaneous environment.

I never was a cheerleader but I knew a number of them—the ones I knew did it to be popular and to attract boys. There was one exception this one girl I knew was trying to get a scholarship to college.

    Great question.

I don’t have a ready made answer or even one that can justify your post. All I can say is that I had a cheerleader in my homeroom since the 7th grade and she was fair decent folk.
