Do you think I could make it as a cheerleader?

Question by yousxhottxbabiix: Do you think I could make it as a cheerleader?
I am in 8th grade and I am thinking about trying out for cheerleading next year. I am 5 feet 7and 1/2 inches. I can do a pretty good handstand and a backbend kickover. I can do Cartwheel, roundoff, 1 handed cartwheel, somersaults. I am going to be enrolling in a tumbling class tomorrow(hopefully). I taught myself all of this everything but a backbend by myself. I also have a pretty good toe touch. What should I do to improve, and any other comments you have.

Thankss!

well, are you good at trusting people? in high school you really need to trust the other girls. (after all, they may be holding your life in their hands….literally) i think if you’d try and learn a back handspring and a back tuck, you’d be in pretty good shape! good luck!

actually, now that i think of it, freshman cheerleaders don’t do as much, you’ll probably be fine no matter what. good luck again!

I used to be a cheerleader in highschool…judges dont just look for tumbling although it does help…you have to make sure your voice is loud and firm and show lots of confidence…facial expressions are a must (smiling, winking…and so on)

I think you will definitely make it with those skills. Just make sure you have the right attitude also.

Definitley! You sound like you have all the qualities and everything it takes to be a cheerleader. I really admire cheerleaders and how flexible and everything they are! It amazes me when I can barely do a cartwheel!

you need to get a back hand spring if it is a competitive team.
be sure to have straight white teeth and smile A LOT, as in always. Make sure you are loud and bubbly.

For help getting a back bend on your own try practicing on your walls just start and slowly move down the wall.

Hey, I’m a gymnast so I’m sure i can help you out with your problem I always compete in competitions in gymnastics so im pretty experienced. Oh k so make sure your doing the “back bend” its originaly called a back walkover anyways make sure its perfect your toes got to be pointing and you can bend your knees the whole way and never go to the side just go right over. Also, it would be good to know how to do the splits you should practice them going as far down as you can on each leg for a minute every night. You will soon improve on that and it will make you more flexible plus a lot of cheerleaders do that in there routine. You should learn to connect a back handspring with the roundoff in tumbeling class thats basically the main step. Focus on that its good for cheerleading thr good ones do this a lot. Um all I can tell you really is PRACTISE!!!!!
    haha good luck

PS: You should be able to make the team with that! X3 Just somethings to improve.
