What Nikon lens should I use to shoot my daughter’s cheerleading comps?

Question by calnmace: What Nikon lens should I use to shoot my daughter’s cheerleading comps?
I have a Nikon D200 and would like to shoot my daughter’s cheerleading competitions (indoor large arena type settings).
Can anyone reccomend a good lens for that, that isnt too expensive? Right now I only have one lens an 18-70 Thanks 🙂

What do you consider too expensive? At around $ 900 the 80- 200 f2.8 would be nice.

the question that you pose has no simple answer, it would depend on several things such as action and lighting, I would suggest the sigma 18-200 3.5 lens, and a good flash unit as the flash would help stop motion. And the zoom can help you get up close check out Nikon school on the Nikon web site for additional help.

Your lens is perfect for that if you can get within 25 feet or so. If you have to be further back, then you can get the 70-300mm VR … the perfect addition to your camera.
