I am a junior now and ever since my freshman year i’ve been in cheer for my high school.
Make sure your motions are tight, fast, and sharp. Every movement should be seen. In dance routines make sure the motions are fast, sharp, and BIG. Small moves make the dance boring.

Smile, wink, pucker your lips! Any facial is going to wow over the judges. Judges love confidence and they love to see you have fun so show them. Even if you mess up keep those facials because once you drop a face they can tell you messed up. Practice them in the mirror.

Jumps!! Keep your chest up, bring your legs to you! Stretch a lot! Do hip flexor stretches. Check on youtube for stretch videos. Make sure your arms are where they supposed to be. Stay sharp and get the height you need to hit your jump. Land on your TOES! don’t come down and hit the ground hard. Keep your body tight on the way down.

Stretch for flexibility. Backbends, straddles, butterflies, pike stretches. Any stretch you can do is great. Also run a little bit, do pushups, and situps. You’re gonna need that arm strength to lift girls and for tumbling. For tumbling you’re also going to need the ab strength and back flexibility.

Give it your ALL! People can tell when you aren’t into something or you don’t want to be there or even when you’re feeling tired or sad. Throw all of the drama and problems out of the door and get out there and cheer!

    Good Luck Hun!!
