Q&A: I am age 15 and obese. Is it too late for me to become a cheerleader?

Question by KayleeR: I am age 15 and obese. Is it too late for me to become a cheerleader?
I am age 15 and weigh 165 pounds. I want to be a cheerleader so I can have a toned muscular body and be stronger than I am now. I am obese and I know nothing about cheerleading but I really want to lose weight. I am so fat. Help me please.

Hey honey 🙂 I was obese at your age too, I hated it and I know how it feels.
Basically, it’s about gradually cutting down on junk and having three balanced meals, combined with exercise. Go for a gentle walk everyday and make sure you eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, and drink plenty of water. I know it’s patronising and you’ve heard it a million times before, but the only way you can lose weight healthily is eating healthily and exercising more. There is no quick fix.
I lost 30lb through a healthy lifestyle. I have an emormous appetite, and I managed it. If I can, you definitely can! Good luck x

I am not an expert in Cheer leading, but I suggest that if you want to lose weight, try talking to your doctor if you can. I am sure that he/she will help you with a way to lose weight. For the most part losing weight demands that you regulate what you are eating. This means choosing to eat healthy, drinking water, and eating less. This does not mean you have to go on a crash diet, it just means that you will need to look at what you are eating, find out what is healthy and what is not healthy, and limit the unhealthy foods. Another important factor in losing weight is exercise. It is very important to exercise so that you are raising your heart rate and burning calories. You can learn more by reading books on exercise or by browsing the internet for easy to do at home exercising. But in my opinion I do not think it is too late for you to become a cheerleader you have plenty of time.

Start doing exercise, eating sensibly and getting plenty of sleep.

Avoid junk food, processed meats and breakfast cereals. Go easy on carbs, rich creamy desserts and sauces, butter, mayonnaise, rich cheeses. Eat a recommended amount of protein, especially if you’re doing exercise – you’ll need this to help your muscles repair themselves. Take multivitamin supplements. And have lots of fresh fruit and veg, add all the herbs and spices you like, but go easy on the butter and oil.

in all honesty it takes time to lose weight. most quick diet plans do not work. you need to structure your lifestyle so you can fit in exercise and eat at regular periods. diets dont have to cut out your favourite foods. Im a chocoholic but i dont eat much other junk foods and i eat balanced meals. im a healthy weight for my age and height.

Firstly you need to pick a few exercises you enjoy. for example cycling, swimming or a sport that you enjoy. cheerleading isnt the only way to tone your body. Swimming is great because there is little chance of getting injuries such as a sprain. it also exercises your muscle especially your limbs and abs. so its an all round exercise. You can also do situps and crunches to tone your midsection. Start with ten a day and then the next week try 15 and build up to more demanding exercises.

Make a plan where you schedule different exercises in the week. Start easy exercises such as cycling for a couple of miles and build up slowly to longer distances. try cycling or walking to destinations, it saves money and keeps you fit.

Also change your eating habits. Eat healthy breakfasts such as cereals with fibre (which will help improve your digestive system) and eat two more balanced meals a day. cut down on junkfoods, try eating fruits instead.

I had a friend who was really conscious about his weight. he began running 2 miles every other day for 2 months and cut out junk food and lowered the sugar and fat levels in his diet and he lost loads of weight you could see it.

the hardest part is getting yourself dedicated to losing weight. once you start and are committed there no stopping you from doing what you want to do. If you start losing weight and stick to exercises and a good diet theres no reason why you cant achieve what you want to achieve.

    good luck!
