Q&A: How has cheerleader culture shaped the cultural landscape of your country?

Question by Yahoo user: How has cheerleader culture shaped the cultural landscape of your country?
How has cheerleader culture shaped the cultural landscape of your country?

We are relatively new to the whole ‘cheerleader’ thing in my country – or at least I am (besides, I am definitely way over that age!). Just about everything we see and hear about cheerleading is through American TV and movies.

Sub-questions:

Does ‘cheerleading culture’ (as seen in high school movies) exist? I’m talking about behavioral and lifestyle idiosyncrasies (of course I know cheering exists!) so please answer intelligently.

How has it shaped your country and its women?

Has it been a positive influence on girls?

P.s. Personal anecdotes are most welcome. No Wikipedia and carbon copies, please. Thanks for reading and answering. I hope my question goes down well and does not upset anybody (if you are a cheerleader). Good day.

cheerleaders here in highschool as considered the ***** of the school…i am not trying to be mean but its true.. the theory is that threy have sex with the football players and change every week.. and they act all stuck up… cheerleaders are like the brainless girl who happen to wear mini skirts to show off their underwear.

it’s just another sport, it’s hard work, it takes years to learn those moves, like back flip. The cheerleader culture exists everywhere, women are catty wherever you go, we make really good friends, that’s what you don’t see on TV, it’s the friendships, and respect for each other, your a TEAM, where out for each other, not just ourselves. why are you asking??????????????????????? Is this your homework or something? No cheer leading is not our entire life, it’s a sport, next to college, homework, family, friends, life, etc………….. it wouldn’t offend me, unless your think I should be offended, are you being sarcastic? Why do feel you should say only intelligent answers please? by the way,,,,,,,,,,,, Does this chicken of the sea have tuna in it, or chicken????

in the usa 250,000,000pop cheerleaders are hardly more than a speck on the universe, and do nothing to change the culture in ANY WAY ,, some films do portray them precariusly to an outsider ,,,glamorizing in some films making fun of them in others ,, any way most ppl woman and men don’t really like the girls that are ,,,,,and i knew a few,,,better than aquantance ,,, they think they are everything and most just end up with very little ,,or average lifes But it is a sport as it progresses through college & does take alot of hard work at a proffesional level ,,,,yet low payed and a short lived career choice

I think cheerleading has a negative effect on women. They are simply ornaments to the actual game going on. I think it simply perpetuates the idea that women are to be gazed upon in a sexual manner; nothing else. This comes from someone who tried the give cheerleading a chance, twice (in highschool-first, kicked-off, the second time I quit)-before coming to my senses and to the conclusion that it was not the image that I wanted to project. I think that women actually playing a sport rather than cheering from the sidelines while looking cute bodes better for womenhood-whatever country they may reside in.
