Q&A: Parents of High School Cheerleaders: What kind of Cheerleading coach you like to see your daughter with?

Question by LITTLE 1 :o): Parents of High School Cheerleaders: What kind of Cheerleading coach you like to see your daughter with?
I am appling to be a Cheerleading Coach at the local high school. I was a cheerleader in Jr. High, high school & College. But, it has been years since I have cheered. And I am wondering about what todays cheerleader and parents are looking for in a coach.

To me cheerleading in just as important as any other sport in high school. Cheerleaders are the heart and soul of their school! And they need to support there school, teams and classmates at all times!
As a coach I would like to see the girls excel in not only in the sport of cheerleading but, in life as well. I would be there to led advice if they need it or just be there if they need someone to talk to!!

What are your thoughts or what are your daughter’s thoughts!

I am 31yrs old and I grew up in a country neighborhood with cheerlgirls in middle/high-school practicing with them at my home, there homes and school all year until we graduated high school and me and 2 of my best female friends went to a Sewanee University and I was suggested to take physical acting/cheer-leading for an extra activity-there I was the only male cheerleader/actor and then I got a degree in physical acting! Now from 2002-2006 I have my own cheer-camp at my college 5th grade to graduated students and I teach cheer classes for 9th to graduated in a another town!!
Me being a male teacher/coach has really been accepted by cheergirls, parents and boys interested in cheerleading !
Hope this could help some !! My web http://www.naturevolunteercare.org

Well cheering experience is a must, but i would want my daughters coach to also have a positive influence on her as a woman, showing them how to be strong, independant women.

Both of my daughters are cheerleaders. In the past two years that they’ve been cheering, the team has been 3rd in State and State Champions. I owe it to their coach. She listens to them.

The girls were allowed to select their music, created the dance, make up the cheer routine, and select the stunts they used in the State Competition. Because of this, the girls felt it was their routine, not something someone else developed for them to regurgitate. I realize that this isn’t possible for all squads, but when they want tougher or easier, it should be heard.

When a base or a flyer had a problem with a stunt, she did not allow blame. A base couldn’t say “It’s the flyer’s fault.” Instead, it was “We can fix it this way.” If a stunt fell, it wasn’t “We could have…”, it was “We did the other stunt well.”

She, also, takes time to listen to the parents. When I had a question, she listened and explained. She accepted when a parent had a complaint. Often, a complaint was a simple misunderstanding.

I hope this helps. Good luck getting the job.
