How do you carry your weight in cheerleading?

Question by cheer1423rox: How do you carry your weight in cheerleading?
I am a base in cheerleading, but my stunt group is short. I am 4’9”, my other base is about that height, too, maybe a little taller, and my flyer is like 4’2”, well, you get the point. But, I think that next season, I might be flyer, and i have been flyer only a few times, not for a season. But, they say to carry your weight when you are flyer, how exactly do you do that?

you squeeze your shoulders and try to make yourself as light as possible…(its kind of a hard concept to grasp, you just kinda get up there and do it) and you raise your chest/shoulders as much as possible (without looking silly) and tense up every muscle in your entire body so you are really easy to fly and stay as tight as possible.

its gonna sound weird, but they used to tell us to pretend there’s a million dollars in your butt, and if you don’t squeeze you’ll drop it…
    TMI but it helps some.

what really annoys me as a base, is when the flyer loads, and expects you to do the work.

doesn’t work that way. especially with heavier flyers.

you need to use your arms to support yourself when you are in a squish. and keep your butt up.

going up in the stunt, time your dips and standing right.

    while you are up,
    million dollar trick 😉
make all of your muscles as tense as possible.
    and lift through your shoulders.
    spread your toes,
and keep your tummy muscles tight.

    coming down,
don’t let your weight slam like a sack of bricks.
    keep it tight and controlled.

    hope it helps a little…
    happy cheering =)

stay as tight as you possibly can. squeezing ur butt and tightening your stomach are most important, but also make sure your legs and arms are tight too. i do acrobatic gymnastics, which is kind of like cheerleading to the extreme/circus, and i am a base. it took my 8 year old top (flyer) a while to grasp the concept of staying tight and when she isn’t, it is very hard to throw around dead weight.
