How can you learn to do a bow and arrow in cheerleading?

Question by Millie: How can you learn to do a bow and arrow in cheerleading?
I’ve recently started cheerleading and would like to learn how to do a bow and arrow. I’m 15 and quite flexible, what would be a good way to learn the move?

If you have a split, try leaning forward, and doing a bow and arrow, while you are ina split. Just keep stretching, as if you were trying to get a split. If you already have a good split, get a mat or something to prop your front foot on, so your back leg is on the ground, and the front leg is on the mat(or other object), so that your legs and hamstring get more flexible. keep pulling it, if you need to stand next to a wall or a chair to lean on if you lose your balance, so you can focus more on pulling it, rather than balancing. You can also try laying on the ground on your back, and having someone stretch you, by holding one leg down, and pulling your other leg up.

keep stretching, have someone with you to help if you dont quite have it, can you a heel stretch, try to bring it up as close as you can to you head, then try to hold it with you other hand, then add the “bow” to the skill. try each and move on to the next when you achieve one skill, hoep this helps! good luck! and after you get it on the floor see if you can do it in a stunt

You need to have your middle split completely down to the ground, and you need to be able to reach with your opposite arm to grab your foot while sitting in the split, like this but with both legs open: http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/2496

If you need more help in getting your splits, try watching the videos here: http://aescougarcheer.com/Cheer101/exercise.htm#splits

Once you can do that you can have someone stand at your back and hold your waist while you are standing. Then try to pull a bow and arrow. Some people can throw their leg straight up and grab it but my flyer starts hers like this and then pulls it up over her head: http://aescougarcheer.com/images/0809/AugustaComp/BownArrowSet.jpg

    Good luck!

ok this is what i did
lay in a split either right or left(fly on left leg:right leg by ur head left leg down,,, fly on right leg:do the opposite) next lean forward towards the leg by your head so that your nose touches your knee(if ur that flexible)
turn your body so that your leg that is down is flat on the floor in line with the side of your body. have your other leg next to your head with your heel facing up you can do this exercise face up face down or to the side kinda confusing but i hope u can understand:)
oh dont pull to hard or u may pull ur hamstring thats wat this grl on my team did:( it should only hurt slightly to represent that ur muscles are strentching(not 2 much not 2 little)
    good luck!!!!!
