well a cartwheel isnt gonna cut it in highschool. but if ure determined and fit, you could atleast start taking classes outside of school so you get good training. school training isnt as good. also you should do outside of school training for 1-2 years depending on your rate of learning and how fast you pick up the skills. then you can tryout as a a sophmore or a junior. thanks and good luck with cheering

    please choose for best answer

If your trying out in front of your school and you’ve never had that experience it can get to you. Just have fun with it and be outgoing, its not that big of a deal.
I would try getting some more tumbling experience though.
Try at least doing a roundoff with a toetouch right after if you cant do a back handspring or anything.
When I was a varsity cheerleader all of our freshman could at least do multiple backhandsprings.
It just depends how your other girls are. If you you think you cant cut it take tumbling now until next year and you’ll blow them away.
Because you need good jumps, sharp movements also.
Plus a good spirit and waht not.
    Good luck though.

You do not need to worry girlee!

I am 21 right now and a Semi-pro cheerleader here in Houston. I started cheering in middleschool, when I got to highschool I became the Varsity Captain even though I was just a freshman.

Cheerleading is not about you “experience!” It’s about your attitude and your willing to learn. You can always let everyone know at your auditions that you’ll take the extra time to take tumbling classes (if needed) and are eager to learn.

Smile, don’t worry about what people think, and for sure — TRY OUT! Even if it doesn’t work out this year for your Highschool team, go join a team outside of your school. (Like a competitive squad that’s not part of a school!) You can choose many different levels and by the next year your school will be begging you to join the team! =)

God luck, smile okay? Message me if you need anymore pointers. I’m egyptian playgirl on myspace.

    Well..
..besides the pressure of upperclass girls dogging you, no not really.

Personally I don’t know because I’m not into that kind of stuff but my younger sister, a senior, is the captain of her cheerleading team.
She started taking cheerleading & gymnastics at an early age so that helped her out A LOT.

I would say, cartwheels aren’t really gonna cut it.

i am trying out as a freshman too. but i have very little experience. try your best and believe in yourself. The actually tryouts might be nerve racking but once you made the team you will think it was easy peezy! go for it and remember to show what you can do. tumbling isn’t always required just an added bonus.

I tried out last year [my freshman year too! ]
i honestly came to tryouts with like no friends.
[none of my friends cheer so i was alone]
by the end of the season i was friends with everyone on the team
    cheerleading is so much fun
& if you think you’re up to it, try out !
the worst that can happen is that you don’t make the team
but yu’ll never know until you try (:
—- it really isn’t ‘scary’ everyone gets nervous, old members & new comers. everybody learns the same routine & does the same jumps. just have fun & the coach will definatly notice you !
    good luck.

i made it with absolutely no cheerleading or gymnastics experience, and i was a terrible dancer. so probably. it was great, that was in middle school and i made friends who i’m still close to. and now i miss it. definitely go for it.
