to get higher jumps you have to practice your splits and practice your jumps a lot our coaches tell us that when we are bored to sit in our splits at home and after a couple of week my entire teams jumps got better so i guess it helps.

when you first start out put your butt up agaisnt a wall asn hold the splits(middle) for a minute. after a week or so add another minute. it worked for me

There’s two parts of a jump in cheerleading – the height and the leg movement.

    For the height:

I suggest doing buddy squats. Pick up a friend of similar weight and do sets of 10 squats at a time. Then your friend goes, and back and forth until you’re too broke off to continue. Do that once a day for a month, and you’ll be good to go.

That’s how we built up leg muscle when I did gymnastics.

I also suggest strapping on a weight vest and doing jumps with those. If you don’t have any, take a hoodie and fill up the pocket with beanbags and sew or tape the pocket closed.

You can also fill up milk jugs with water and do jumps with those in your hands.

Basically, anything that makes it harder to jump will make you stronger when you aren’t jumping with any weight.

    For the legs:
Stretch. That’s all you can do. I like stretching with a friend, because you can push each other down, yell bloody murder, and have a good time. Just do it every day for half an hour. If you watch a lot of TV, then that’s the time to do it. Just hold a split during commercials. Next commercial, go to another split. And so on.

    STRETCH STRETCH STRETCH!!!
~sit in a straddle. reach for your left foot (hold for 20 sec), reach for your right foot (do the same), and reach for the middle (do the same) do this once or twice every other day. (or if you wanna get an extra stretch, do it once in the morning and once at night every day.)
~lay on your back, and then bring your legs up like your doing a toe touch and reach for the middle when your legs are up. and then snap your legs together when you bring them down.
~practice doing high V or high T jumps so you get the hang of getting height for your jump.
~just do a lot of toe touches every day, and youll end up getting v’s for toe touches

since its still summer, you still have time to enroll into a local cheer camp. but if its too expensive, try going to an open tumbling class at a local gymnastics gym if you dont have a trampoline.
if you do have a trampoline, do a whole bunch of toe touches consistently so you get the hang of it.

and another thing. i made up my mind to try out for cheerleading in january 2010. so almost every day i did everything i listed. and the tryouts were may 25 2010. so i did these exercises for about 5 months. i started off doing toe touches that looked like jumping jacks, but after maybe after 2 months i saw that i got higher, and so did my legs.

i also bought this little contraption right here to help (and it works:)

hope this helped and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!(:
