I now judge for cheerleader try outs at my old high school and here are a few things I know I like to see along with my fellow judges:
1. Always have a smile on. If you don’t the judges think you really aren’t into it.
2. Pony tails with a bow. ultimate cheerleader accessory.
3. After jumps clap your hands before standing up right. Its just what most cheerleaders do and you need to get use to it. Coaches always make you do that.
4. If you have to dance, dance to your fullest extent. Show what you have.
5. Always be LOUD but do not scream. Use your outside voice indoors.
6. Shake the judges hands before you start and after you are done. It shows that you really want to do this.
7. Make sure that there aren’t big things conflicting with practice. That is a big turn off. Coaches want you to be 110% committed.
8. Not too much make up. The only time you should have a ton on is during competition and games.
9. Power. Show you are a strong leader. Its called cheerLEADING after all.
10. Make sure that you show confidence at all times. You can’t be shy and timid. That is a big turn off as well.
I wish you the best of luck 🙂

My best tips are SMILE the whole time right at the judges. Learn to “rally” from a cheerleader there and use it before you tumble, after you tumble, and after every jump, kick, and cheer you perform in the tryout. Pointed toes are a must, hair out of your face, and even if you mess up don’t show it on your face, keep smiling like you did nothing wrong and do NOT look at the other girls to catch on to/watch what they are doing. Learn everything they want you to learn/do and go home and practice, practice, practice! Be confident, and go in there and have fun! Good luck!

I am a cheerleader and here are what coaches are looking for:
    1.SMILE-always smile
2.confidence-don’t be nervous! Coaches and judges do not want a nervous cheerleader they want a confident person to represent the school.
3.sportsmanship-cheer on other cheerleaders and tell them they did a good job and nicely help other people with cheers, chants and dances.
    4.clean looking-hair tied back,not greasy,nails trimmed and cleaned
5.appropriate makeup and clothes- not too much makeup during tryouts or practices,no jewelry that would get in the way, good tennis shoes, short shorts (because its easier to jump in, do splits, etc.)
6.Choppy moves- make motions fast, firm and not floppy
7.pointed toes when doing splits, jumps and kicks
    8.be LOUD but don’t scream.
Extras to do to impress judges-
1.know names of all motions- if you don’t go to http://cheerleading.about.com/od/motions/l/bl_motions.htm
2.have hair up cute with cheerleading ribbon
3.If you can do splits or any gymnastics skills show the coach and judges
4.know any cheers or chants from your school? practice these!
5.make up your own cheer and show the coach
    Great exercises to do:
    1.jog twice a week
    2.do aerobic workouts
    3.lift weights
4.a great workout video is the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders workout video. You can buy it off line at http://www.amazon.com/Dallas-Cowboys-Cheerleaders-Power-Squad/dp/B002HK9IN6 you can probably also rent it at your local movie rental place. Or if you have time warner cable go to exercise tv and they have it there.
5.stretch everyday. If you can’t do the splits then if you stretch good everyday you should be able to do splits in like 3 months
6.take gymnastics. The YMCA usually has a special class for cheerleaders
    7. here is a great cheerleading workout plan to follow that I use:http://www3.malone.edu/media/1/4/36/Malone_University_Cheerleading_Workout_Plan.pdf
Hope I helped and good luck 😉
