All you have to do is tryout. Tryouts are usually in the very beginning of the school year because football season is in the fall. Good Luck!

heyy!!

you already have a pretty good tumbling ability (round-off backhandspring is very important for highschool cheer)!!

things you MUST do as often as possible to ensure a spot on the squad are:

-stretching (will help LOADS with your jumps)
-right, left, middle splits (what we do at gymnastics is lay parallel to a wall, then turn to the wall with your butt on the wall and do the splits on the wall…the pull of gravity brings your legs down, and its less harsh on your knees)
-straddle
-pike
-arms
-back (backbends work best…but put your legs together and make them straight for an even better stretch)

-Conditioning (helps with jumps A TON, tumbling and stunts)
-a good amount of crunches…NOT situps.
-lots of lunges
-running at least 3/4 mile..a full mile is best
-JUMPS!!!!! if you already dont know the names of all the jumps..then look on google for instructions that would be more clear than mine (lol)
-If you live near a beach…then the BEST place to do jumps and running is in the sand (we do this in volleyball too). when you are used to the toughness of jumping in the sand…on land you are ten times better…or more. if people tell you to practice on a trampoline DO NOT listen…it makes your jumps worse.

-Eat right
-Eat lots of protein to build muscle

-Dancing
-if you have a video where they teach you dances…USE IT…the more you practice learning dances, the better and faster you will get at it. Nothing is mer fustrating than not being able to pick up a dance at try-outs.

-Motions
-STRONG.
-NO broken fists
-tight.

-Cheering
-work on cheering from your diaphram…NOT your throat.
-put your hand on your stomach to make sure you are cheering from your diaphram
-FACIALS…this means working the crowd…smile smile smile…but no cheerleader on crack crap.

-Tumbling
-keep going to your gym and working on more extensive tumbling passes

If you have ANY other questions please please please ask me…im sure you will do an awesome jobb : ]

How can i become a cheerleader for highschool help me!!?

Question by sereenacullen: How can i become a cheerleader for highschool help me!!?
I really want to become a cheerleader I have the spirit and im working on my stretches and splits, I can do a cartwheel and im trying to do a roundoff (help how do i do one) But im concerned a little on my size… I am a freshman next year, and I am a little ashamed of my weight my dress size is a 14-16 but i have great spirit and I believe i am flexible can i make it??

keep working on your flexibility. your size shouldnt matter as long as you are loud and clear and your movements are precise. you could work as a base for stunting so build upper-body strength. to do a roundoff start by standing in a position to do a cartwheel but instead of bending to the side you will push yourself into something like a handstand. while you have your legs in the air twist your body 180degrees and push your body to land on your feet.
this video gives great details too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE29w0pWH-4
good luck and dont forget to smile at your tryout!!!!!

What happens at cheerleading tryouts for an average highschool?

Question by Emily P: What happens at cheerleading tryouts for an average highschool?
I’ve been cheerleading since 4th grade (recreationally, not elite) and I’ve always been confident about making the high school squad next year but now I’m kind of nervous because maybe all of my experience won’t pay off. What do they usually make you do??

Best answer:

Answer by Marisa
That’s great that you want to continue cheering in high school. The upcoming freshmen are always the most nervous so you’re not the only one. Tryouts are usually a week long and they teach you a cheer, some chants, and a dance (different with some schools). The key is to practice hard and not get frustrated. Coaches look for technique, skill, and appearance (put together/ not sloppy). SMILE during tryouts. Practice in the mirror or in front of others to critique. Remember: it matters about skill not experience! Good luck! You’ll do great! 🙂

How much does it costto be a highschool cheerleader?

Question by shycountryboy85: How much does it costto be a highschool cheerleader?
My gf is planning on becoming a cheerleader. she has already been told by the coach she can make it hands down but they are telling her it will cost her 400 dollars. for cheerleading camp, pompoms, shoes, and warmups. To me this sounds like a rip off or is this a normal price?
