What happens at cheerleading tryouts for an average highschool?

Question by Emily P: What happens at cheerleading tryouts for an average highschool?
I’ve been cheerleading since 4th grade (recreationally, not elite) and I’ve always been confident about making the high school squad next year but now I’m kind of nervous because maybe all of my experience won’t pay off. What do they usually make you do??

That’s great that you want to continue cheering in high school. The upcoming freshmen are always the most nervous so you’re not the only one. Tryouts are usually a week long and they teach you a cheer, some chants, and a dance (different with some schools). The key is to practice hard and not get frustrated. Coaches look for technique, skill, and appearance (put together/ not sloppy). SMILE during tryouts. Practice in the mirror or in front of others to critique. Remember: it matters about skill not experience! Good luck! You’ll do great! 🙂
