When up in the air, don’t focus on what your bases are doing, focus on being tight and if you are doing a liberty, pull your leg up really high and don’t rest it on your other leg. Also, just make you have sharp motions in the air, because the sharper your motions, the tighter you will be!

How to prepare to be a cheerleading flyer?

Question by curlygirl: How to prepare to be a cheerleading flyer?
Last year I did cheerleading and I was a backspot because we stunted with elementary students, but this year at my new high school I couldn’t try out for cheer because I’m a new student. However, I talked to some of the cheerleaders and they said that if I make the team next year, which I probably will, I could be a flyer. I”m 5’2 and about 115 lbs. How should I prepare to be a flyer?

a couple things you need to know when you fly are to be tight, dont bend your knees when you are up and cradling, squeeze you legs together, and another thing i learned at a clinic was when you go into a “sponge” (this is where you are getting ready to go up and your feet should be in your bases hands) you should be able to hold your self up… you shouldnt rely on your bases or spotters help… it is up to you… have fun!

well its not something you can change to become a flyer
but flyers should be flexible and you need lots of balance and trust in your stunt group
you can increase your balance by standing on a balance board or just anything wear you balance
you need to stay tight and through the whole stunt and be quick
don’t hesitate either

just practice these with your stunt group

Being a flyer is streneous job. If you want to be a flyer first you may want to condition to get your body to a point that allow you to do so. Stomach, leg, and glute muscles are very important. Once you have done all of that; the tips are…Stay tight (lock your knees, squeeze your bottom, pull up through your shoulders) Things that may really affect a stunt are “toeing” and “heeling”. Toeing is when you put all your weight in your toes causing the stunt to move forward; Heeling is when you put all your weight in your heel causing the stunt to go back…Try to keep all your weight in the center of your feet…once you start flying you may notice that there are certain ways of doing things that work for you and your bases…DON’T BE AFRAID OF HITTING THE GROUND!! You have to trust your bases. Also think about how your actions affect your bases; Put yourself in their shoes!!
