well its not something you can change to become a flyer
but flyers should be flexible and you need lots of balance and trust in your stunt group
you can increase your balance by standing on a balance board or just anything wear you balance
you need to stay tight and through the whole stunt and be quick
don’t hesitate either

just practice these with your stunt group

hi, im a cheer flyer too, so ill help you!

first thing is, you have to be considerable small and/or light.
im in 8th grade and 5’1 and 90 pounds, so im a good size. make sure your at least less than about 100 lbs, so your bases wont have trouble handling you or have any problems stunting.

also, be fearless. as a flyer, you have a huge risk of being hurt and dropped. make sure your safe and you have the confidence and skill to hold yourself up during a stunt or basket toss.

next, work on your balance A LOT. pretty much the most important thing is poise and balance because thats what your there for. be able to stand up in a basic extention, and then work on other stunts that require lots of balance. (go in this order: extention, lib, arabasque, scale, heelstretch, scorpion, bow and arrow). but, before you can do those stunts in the air, you have to balance PERFECTLY with them on the ground. to maintain balance, squeeze your body and muscles as hard as you can and stand tall, you want to help your bases by holding some of your own weight too.

next are basket tosses. what you want to do on any basket toss is catch as much are as you can, and hit the toss perfectly and as well as you can.

when coming down from a stunt or basket toss, its important to trust that your bases and spots will catch you, even if they dont. cradling is like free-falling and try your best to make yourself less heavy and get your arms out of the way, and you legs in the right position.

    good luck(:

I know how you feel. I’ve been cheerleading for almost 7 years, and I always wanna be the flyer. But every other year I’ve been one of the older girls on my squad, so also one of the tallest. In the years I have been the younger one, I’ve been I flyer, but that was when I was shorter and younger, so I didn’t get to do a bunch of cool stuff or anything. Now I’m on the taller side of my team, compared to some girls so I don’t fly much anymore. 🙁

The coach will pick the flyer depending on height, weight, and skill. It’s not really something you can change. Usually the flyers are short, so they also weigh less. But I have seen flyers on the tall side, so if you want to be a flyer, just tell your coach that you’d like to give it a try. If you’ve been one before, tell her everything you can do. If not, then say you’d like to try it. Don’t push her though, because it’s her decision. If you’re not a flyer, don’t worry about it. The coach is just trying to do what’s best for the team. Plus, everyone else is just as important. If there were no bases, there would also be no flyer.

Good luck and I hope I helped! 😀

I am a flyer on my 8th grade squad. It helps to be on the smaller side (I’m 13 years old, 86 pounds, and 5 foot 2). But you also need some other things…

Trust your stunt group: Very important! I trust everyone on my squad. That way, if there is a change in my group, I adjust quickly. I have fallen many times, but I’ve never been seriously hurt because I know the people below me will catch me, and they have.

Be confident: No matter how I feel about a stunt, I always tell myself I can do it before going up. Last year My squad tried a heel stretch elavator with me. I ended up falling and spraining my foot and knee, but it would’ve been worse if I’d freaked out and hadn’t been able to concentrate.

    Hope this helps!

You have to be extremely flexible and have good balance. Also, most of the time you need to be lightweight.

I really hope you make it to being a flyer. (:
