Well, I wouldn’t sign up for gymnastics but just tumbling because tumbling is a huge part of cheer.

In five months, if you are actually serious about it, you should be able to learn a standing back handspring, a tuck and a round off back handspring back tuck.

But again, you gotta be serious and not be mental and just do it.

Well, gymnastics is compeltely different from cheerleading. I do gymnastics currently, and not cheerleading, but I’ve done it in the past. I’d suggest signing up for tumbling classes, because that will help you way more than gymnastics.
    Really, it just depends on:
    1. How hard you work. The more you go to open gyms and classes, the more ready you’ll be.
    2. The skills you get before tryouts. Of course you need the basics, like splits. But, idk what else your school requires.
    3. Your school’s cheerleading program. Check with somebody you know who is on the team already, or a coach. The requirements to make the team change from team-to-team.

Plus, you may not even need classes. My one friend who is a cheerleader used to do gymanstics a long time ago, but my other friend never took classes or anything. So, really, you could just show up for tryouts and do really good, and make the team.
Or, you could go to different kinds of classes, such as tumbling classes, to prepare. The only thing they could do is help.

    Good luck, hope that helps.(:
