What can I do to be a better cheerleader?

Question by beccaa ox `: What can I do to be a better cheerleader?
I just tryed out for the middle school squad this year, and i was the only first-timer who made it. my coach said at the beginning of the year that i had a lot of talent, i just need a few lessons and practice. im very good, i can do every jump half decent, i am close to doing full splits, and i can do the dances flawlessly. Stunting is a bit tougher, and im just a front in the stunt groups. i go to the high school next year and i want to be a cheerleadre there too, but its way harder and im afraid i wont make it since i dont have enough experiance, plus i really dont want to stay a front for the rest of my cheer life. what should i do to improve my cheering? any specific stretches or websites? any information at all would help! im not doing this for popularity, i really like cheerleading.

I am just a boy but i am in martial arts and i was in the same situation as you (except it wasn’t a try out or a school team) what i did was after practice i would go up to my coach and ask if he/she had any spare time to teach me how to do things better or i would go up to my friends who were better than me and ask if they could watch me do something and tell me what i did wrong and either talk me throught the whatever or show me how it was done. Some cheerleaders find that a little weird but were i go, all the cheerleaders watch each other and the critique each other preformance. The cheerleaders in highschool do this because they need to know what the other person is thinking and if they know what they are thinking, then the routine in your dance will be perfect. Im not saying cheerleaders are perfect. I see cheerleaders in our high school lift another girl up by one foot while see tucks the other one by her leg and shes got her hands in the air and you can also see that she is wobbeling or trying to stay balanced. Cheerleaders practice their routines everyday and two times a day. they also practice the routine right before they have to go out and preforme the routine. So use your friends as help to critique your work and do the same.
Shoot me and email and tell me if this worked. My email is orangeknight31@yahoomail.com (dont ask. blackknight29 was taken and i thought orangeknight was a cool name).

I just answered a similar question for someone else. If your family can afford it, call around to see if any gymnastics schools near you have special cheerleading classes, like mine did.
From what my varsity sister-in-law said, you will need tumbling skills if you decide to pursue it all the way to the college level.
Keep stretching your legs every single day, and hold each for 30 seconds.
    Good luck!

Im a cheerleader in middle school too and it seems like its only stunting that your problem is, not to be mean or anything but front spotting is extremely easy, and on a high school team you wont make it if you can only front spot, on my team i front spot back spot and base, so your gunna have to ask some girls that were already on the team or look it up on the internet on how to get better at stunting.

some all star gyms have a class that is only stunting. try signing up for one of them to get the practice you need for highschool!
