Q&A: How can I start a cheerleading squad at my college?

Question by Honeybee: How can I start a cheerleading squad at my college?
we are an all girls school and we have no football team, I would like to start a competative team like all stars, but I have no idea how to go about it, would we have to hire a coach, or just get an adviser at school to watch us?

Oh, please don’t. The world has more than enough cheerleaders already.

AAAHHHH I have a lot of exp. with this.. i work with teams that are formed because of various reasons.. ok you need to talk to 2 different places.. 1 Your Athletic director.. see if there was a cheer squad ever and if ther was , what happened.. see if they would be interested in having another one and then you need to talk about budgets etc.. talk also about other universities in your league that have squads and how great it would be to have one for your school… its all about stroking the ego of the school ya know?

Next if you dont get anywhere with the AD, you can talk to you student govt…. you will prolly have to talk to the entire stdent goot body and then get a charter and be an athletic CLUB for a while.. find out what guidelines you have to cover then go for it!

As for the coaching aspect.. you can contact a local cheer gym or a tumbling gym and advertise for a coach or look for an advisor but you need to have someone that can assume a coachig role!! safety first.. they should be qualified and safety certified…

AND lastly.. you have to crawl befor eyou walk.. being and all star competative team takes work and proper technique… and SAFETY… dont just throw a team together…do it the right way… GREAT LUCK!!!!!!!
