Q&A: how can I quit cheerleading when i just tried out?

Question by Alex: how can I quit cheerleading when i just tried out?
There are only 9 people on our squad right now because one already quit, plus we have only just taken our measurements so i think we will still have to pay for the uniform. I really dont enjoy cheerleading and i can tell everyone else on the squad thinks i’m bad. They think I am only there because my mom makes me go but she doesn’t. I have been avioding practice for a few weeks now and i really don’t want to go. Are there anyways to get out of this?

Yes once you make a commitment to a team it is very hard to get out of. But i think that the sooner the better. Just because they’ve taken your measurements doesn’t mean they have to place the order yet. Just let your team know how you feel and leave. If your hearts not in it you won’t give 100% and you’ll let down the team. If you don’t like cheerleading don’t continue, it’ll make it harder to back out the longer you stay in.

just quit. i quit softball when i was in middle school after being on the team for years; i just didn’t enjoy it anymore so I kind of just stopped going to practice. However, that’s probably not the best way to go about it. I just really didn’t care because none of the girls on the team were really my friends or anything we just played sports together, the only reason they were cool with me being on the team was because I was so good at softball. I didn’t fit in with them. But if you and the other girls on your squad are friends then you need to just be straight up and tell them that you’re not into it and you don’t want to waste any more of your time on something that you don’t enjoy.

Don’t feel bad about not wanting to go, it’s just not your thing, better to deal with it now than put yourself through something you hate.

why would you try out if you didn’t like cheerleading and take a spot on the squad from someone who really wanted it? if you made the squad in the first place you are clearly good or you wouldn’t have made it. you can do one of 2 things you can let the team down or you don’t let the team down. if you quit or if you stay but not give it your all then you let them down. if you stay and deal with giving it your best then you haven’t let them down. but decide quick because the longer you wait the more you let them down. so if you’re going to quit just do it.
