i doubt you could. you can’t just start sports in college because that’s advanced stuff you’re dealing with

I guess that it would be possible to become a college cheerleader without any experience, but it would be very hard. There will be more experienced cheerleaders who know what they are doing. Its always possible, but very improbable.

The way of success in anything is ten thousands hour. Do any thing for ten thousands hour you will be successful. How many hours you put in so far?

A lot of the cheerleaders at your college would have been offered scholarships, most likely, since they were good cheerleaders in high school. So you’d probably have to try out for a walk-on position. Since the cheerleaders would likely be more experienced, you’d have a lot of competition and you’d have to be as good as girls who cheered for 3 or 4 years in high school. Schools do pick walk-ons if there is a need, but the odds are stacked against you. It’s not the same as going to tryouts in middle school or high school just so you can be popular or date jocks. These girls have likely competed in and even won cheerleading competitions, possibly even on a national level.

Sure, I was a gymnast in high school and got offered a full scholarship for college cheerleading and I had no cheer experience.

Unless you’re a level 6 gymnast or better, it’s highly unlikely. Many cheerleaders at the collegiate level are recruited. There are a few walk ons but you have to be damned good to make the squad. With no experience whatsoever in cheeleading the your chances are slim to none, and slim just left town. The only way to make the squad would be to have a strong gymnastics background, and even then it wouldn’t be a sure thing, Since there would likely be other walk-ons who do have experience.

It depends on how athletic the team is and how athletic you are. I have seen gymnasts and dancers make the transition with little trouble. I have also seen teams at very small schools take just about anyone they can get for their roster.

So find out what the requirements for tryouts at your school of choice are and determine whether or not you qualify. If you think you do then start learning everything you can about cheer: http://aescougarcheer.com/Cheer101/basics.htm

Classes at an all-star gym would help, so check into the ones in your area and see what they offer.

    Good luck!
