I want to do cheerleading in high schoool?

Question by smile4lyfe11: I want to do cheerleading in high schoool?
I did gymnastics when i was 6 for about 5 months but I’ve always been the soccer girl. I was thinking about trying cheerleading when I get to high school next year because I wish I didn’t quit gymnastics. I can do cartwheels and round offs, both one handed. Where should I start? I can’t start up gymnastics again because I don’t have time since I play traveling soccer. What can I do at home that would make me a good cheerleader in high school?

well it would be very hard for both so i dont suggest that. but if you have an allstar gym near you then maybe you could go to their tumbling classes or go to their open gym if they have it

Join a gym for tumbling on a day that ur free it will help a lot and proubly u will be able to do a backhandspring by high school tryouts!

Gymnastics would help you prep for next year. Plus, cheerleading will take up a lot fo time so maybe you’ll need to get used to giving up soccer for cheerleading. Think though. Which do you love more? Because if they are at the same time, you proabably won’t be able to do both. And, for most varsity teams you need to be able to do a:
    backhandsrping
    roundoff backhandspring
    back tuck

Doesn’t mean you couldn’t get on JV or anything. But just letting you know

idk but could you answer mine

see if they have any cheer prep classes at any gyms near your house- they teach you stunts, gymnastics, and cheer

Constantly do back bends, splits, etc. It will only better you for cheerleading. Trust me. I used to be super flexible and i quit doing stretches at home and lost everything haha. I know thats not tumbling but it will be really good for cheerleading, wether you are a base or flyer.

As far as tumbling goes, back bends, etc. Maybe you can join a tumbling program that works around your schedule? I go to tumbling once a week and if I am gone I simply skip it and go to open gym on the weekends. Other than that if you have a trampoline that will help a little bit. Also, you can have a friends that knows how to tumble to help you and spot you! (:

look up dances or cheers and stuff like that on the internet and just teach it to yourself so you get the general idea about it. also exercise a lot and stretch allll the time. when it comes to cheerleading you have to be very flexible. i hope this helps!

if you have friends in cheerleading thats great!, ask them to teach you a few cheers. then you can go from that. be tight, and smile. to practice jumps, get on a trampoline and do a few& strech everyday. If you dont have a friend in cheerleading, look up some cheers on youtube and try to learn them. when you tryout, they want you to be able to learn quickly(:
