Question by Canadaa Chick: How do I become a better cheerleader ?
I just started cheerleading at my high school and I really suck !
Almost everyone on the team has done it before so they know what to do.

I’m pretty good at stunting (i’m a top)
I can full , basket toss ect.

But I can’t seem to get the dance down.
Also my jumps SUCK!
I am the absolute worst on the team.. they get about 1 ft. off the ground.

Tips and techniques to become a better cheerleader PLEASE! 🙂

As far as the dance goes..Just keep practicing it slow..making sure each 8 count is perfect slow then try an 8 count with music…Do that for the whole dance..For jumps make sure for a toe touch you do not drop your chest this will help you get higher..roll your hips under too..stretch every night this will actually overtime help your jumps and flexibility. One exercise You can do for a toe touch is pick a wall..standing up place both hands on it lift your leg across your body and swing it to a high angle..do this for 10 on each leg for a week..then 15..for a week..then 20 etc etc. For hurkies…hurrdlers. Simply sit in the position of the jump and stretch as far as you can. Think about pointing your toes and not dropping your chest. Make sure your prep is tight because that makes the jump look much cleaner..practice doing T jumps very tight..Practice facials in the mirror. Last thing for jumps wit against a wall laying down spread your legs in a v try to hold for 30 secs..next week a min

    practice practice practice! Even when you are at home you can stretch, and practice the dances. Also try looking some things up on youtube and on cheer leadingg websites

    well for dances ask for help if you cant remember the moves. have the person go in front of you and count while she does the moves and you copy. once you think you have it like that go a little faster etc.
    you need to stretch jumps. for toetouches DONT bring your hands to your toes if that is the issue. also stretch your hip flexers and try rolling your hips so your toetouches are higher.(aka hyper extending)
    for pikes you should stretch the pike on the ground with pointed toes and kneees straight. if those are really nice and good then you need to work on your abs so your legs can lift up to your hands
    for the herdeler aka herkie ssit on the ground and put one left in a triangle shape while your other is straight. make sure your foot thats in the triangle shape is against your straight leg. then just lean down on the straight leg.
