Oh, for God’s sake. If you already made the squad, your weight is FINE. They wouldn’t have picked you if you were 20-30 lbs. overweight. And you know that. Stop thinking that stick-thin girls are something to be proud of. It’s a BAD thing. Girls die EVERYDAY from eating disorders. And you are wanting to be yet another tragedy.

Truuuust me girl, you were obviously fit enough to make cheer leading, and once you start all those practices you WILL lose weight!
In the mean time, stop eating junk food completely. If you usually eat Cheetos and pop for lunch, start bringing carrot sticks, cheese cubes and your own healthy lunch. I like low fat chicken breast (deli meat by Boar’s Head) on whole wheat with tomato, lettuce and a smidge of low fat mayo. Also, for those snacky times after practice, I’d bring some animal crackers and a tiny container of peanut butter to dip them in. That’s just me though, LOL.
Don’t worry! Just be as active as you can and eat right! Remember though, if you start starving yourself your skin will get bad, your hair will fall out and you’ll be weak and tired all the time. Definitely NOT a good look for a cheerleader.
    BTW: Congrats!!

There is no quick way. All you can do is make sure you eat well, exercise, and increase your water intake. Don’t try the diet shakes – it’ll give you gas and watery poo, and no diet pills – you’ll just end up hurting your body in the future.

Your FIRST consideration is HEALTH and loosing that kind of weight quickly could cause BIG problems.

The first consideration is DIET and you should pass on ALL soda’s and switch to water. Here is a trick that will really help. Drink 1 qt. of water per 50 pounds (THREE Qts.) and finish it two hours before you train. You will be able to keep up much better and the training in itself will take weight off. Stay away from the chips and fast food and if you need a snack try peanut butter and bananna between two rice cakes. Celery and carrot sticks are good too; not much fun but will give you a lift.

STAY away from the Energy drinks, pills and all the other stuff. It will simply make you feel like a cat in a small room filled with 100 rocking chairs…NOT GOOD!

If your parents are tall and large you can’t fight genetics. It is just how it is. You didn’t mention how tall you were and that is a big consideration.

WEIGHT is NOT an issue really, but fitness level. With your height, weight and a low waist measurement (just where your hips start) the nurse can look on a chart and tell you what your body fat is. As an example WNT soccer players are about 14%. Look at body fat and that will determine your fitness level and weight has NOTHING to do with it!

Here is an example. I played semi-pro soccer at 6’3″ 220 pounds, my BF was 18%. I retired and dropped to 180 pounds; my BF was also 26% and I looked like a fatty. I adjusted my diet, exercised and my BF is now right around 19%.

Measuring weight is just lame because it is an incorrect measure of fitness. If you are proportionate in height and weight (who cares what weight) and have a BF of around 20% you are RIPPED!

If you are serious about getting fit start slow by walking, riding a bike, eat smart and just let it happen. You are young so enjoy it without a ton of self-imposed pressure. YOU MADE THE TEAM and GOOD FOR YOU! Just don’t let the peer pressure create dumb goals for you.
