why is cheerleading so popular in the USA?

Question by Nat R: why is cheerleading so popular in the USA?
Why is cheerleading so popular in the United States? It’s in every sports telecast, on tv and in movies. It’s not big in Australia or Britain at all.
The last time a cheerleader made the news here in Australia, it was because she was hit in the head and concussed by a semi-full can of beer.
Why do girls aspire to lead cheers? Wouldn’t they rather be good at the sport?

Because it showcases the beautiful, perfect people. It makes feel important because they are popular. It’s part of the Friday Night ritual in small towns everywhere across the US. It’s part of the town pride. Personally, I think it’s overrated.

I think cheer is over rated a little and I’m a cheerleader. Cheerleading isn’t all about cheers. We stunt, tumble, and workout. We had more injuries on our cheer team, than our football team. We competed in three competitions. We don’t aspire to lead cheers we aspire to compete. Everyone doesn’t respect us because they don’t see us practice. Most cheerleaders are good at other sports just like cheer more. I hope this changes your point of view!
