Question by Grizzlybeargirl: Why is cheerleading not perceived as a sport when it is ?
Don’t get me wrong ima cheerleader myself, I’m just writing an essay about how the public views cheerleading. Wondering if you could give me. Reason?

I’m a cheerleader too! And everyone things of it as just entertainment or something like that.
Most people think of it as just being a bunch of hyper teenage girls doing cartwheels and jumping around.
All you do is jump around and flaunt your bod and stick out your butt.
It’s so not a sport. Just a bunch of chicks and the odd funboy dancing around
Cheer leading is not a sport because you guys have rehearsal not practice!
Because people are dumb and believe everything they see on TV (of course the actors on TV don’t stunt or tumble- they ARE actors!)
Thanks to more realistic movies and media coverage people are changing there minds but until then you have to leave all you have on the floor and do your best to prove them wrong! LOL. I am a bit passionate about the subject!
they say its a sport cause its on espn. pokers on espn too. some of those guys weigh 300 lbs

Cheerleading- Wears uniforms.
Football- physically taxing
Cheerleading-Physically taxing
Football- has practices
Cheerleading- has practices
Football-Possibility of injury ( even death from a wrong tackle..neck broken , head injury)
Cheerleading- Possibility of Injury( even death…from a wrong dismount, falling, possibility of broken neck or head injury.)
Football-recognized at events
Cheerleading- Recognized at events.
Football- seen on ESPN
Cheerleading…seen on ESPN.
I would definitely say…that with just those comparisons…Cheerleading is a definite sport.

Cheerleading IS a sport, duh! Whoever says it isn’t is jealous!
cheerleading is no more of a sport than golf is. that is not to say that you do not need to possess a certain skill to be a cheerleader, it is simply not a sport.
