Why do my friends/brothers make fun of me for being a cheerleader?

Question by K: Why do my friends/brothers make fun of me for being a cheerleader?
It’s really annoying. Whenever I tell my brothers or friends I have practice they just laugh at me and tell me how it’s all girly and preppy and it’s not a sport. I thought my friends were supposed to support me in whatever I do, and I really do enjoy cheerleading.

And my brothers don’t even exercise or never bothered to participate in a sport anyway so I don’t get why they laugh at me.

Just ignore them.
I was a cheerleader all throughout middle school.
I loved it!
I loved tumbling and practice our cheers and dances.
Noone would make fun though.
They think its a girly sissy sport.

Next time they tell you it’s girly or whatever just say “That’s your opinion” and then walk away. They should be supporting you. I don’t know why their being immature. It’s only a hobby.

    Don’t worry about it.
    Ignore them.
As long as you like it, then it’s all good.

    🙂

I suspect it’s because they think it’s all girly and preppy and it’s not a sport.
    But I’m just guessing.

    I’m not sure either.

I think they just think it’s ‘preppy’ and ‘girly’. They don’t respect cheer leading.

Whenever they insult you, just tell them that you’d like to see them cheer lead. That will sure to shut them up.

If you want, ignore them. I understand your brothers teasing you, but not your friends. I suggest getting some others friends who do not insult you.

Good luck! Oh, and have fun while your at cheer leading practise!

Oh yeah, one more thing, cheer leading is a sport. I’m not sure what type you do, but some schools have it real hard doing flips, kart wheels and splits. Painful is one word to describe it.

It’s because they think it’s a sissy sport even though it really isn’t. Some schools do have it really hard and you have to do a lot of stunts. (Throwing people in the air, pyramids, complicated dances, splits, etc.)

I used to get crap from my brothers too and sometimes my friends but I learned to ignore it. If you really love it just ignore them. You shouldn’t have to give up something you love doing just because of them.

Also it’s because of the stereotypes cheerleaders are placed in. They’re usually seen as snobby, rich, & mean but the ones on my team were the nicest people I’ve ever met in my entire life.

    How old are your brothers?
Because if they’re still young they’re just being immature and not really supportive of you. If they get older they’ll be happy that you have something you enjoy.

If they are older they’re probably just bitter that they didn’t get attention from the cheerleaders or one cheerleader in high school pissed them off .

Ignored them. If you enjoy it, keep doing it.

Ask them if they can lift other people in the air and throw them. Ask if they can do flips and stuff. Lets see about that .

Some girls like cheerleading because they think they can get all the guys that way and think they are so amazing for being a “cheerleader” and call it a sport. And they’re all preppy and think they’re so high on a pedestal over anyone else.
some girls actually like it for the stunts and for being able to enjoy it with friends.
Maybe your friends/brothers think you only do cheerleading because you think so high of yourself for doing it.
idk cause im not one of your friends/brothers

  9. Hi

Many reasons why they do it. The most common one is that they’re your siblings and siblings do that.
As for it being a sport, if you measure sports in a way of what type of teams are in the olympics, then no, it’s not a sport. But by that token, neither is billiards, bowling, or golf. If you figure a sport is something that is competitive, involves teamwork and have matching outfits, then yes, it’s a sport. By that definition though, so is being a Jehovah’s Witness.
The point here is, what do you enjoy? It may seem like what they do and say are so important right now, but speaking from experience, 5 years from now, you’ll remember the good times you had on the team more than anything your brothers or friends say… … … And if push comes to shove, you can always tell them they just wish they looked as good in a mini skirt, which is even stranger since they’re guys. 😉
