Q&A: What were your cheerleading tryouts like?

Question by FashinFeen*: What were your cheerleading tryouts like?
i’m a junior in high school and i was thinking of trying out for junior varsity cheerleading then for my senior year tryout for varsity. i was a cheerleader in elementary school but we didn’t really tumble. i know how to do a toe touch, a herkie, and i’m working on my pike and front hurdler. in my school junior varsity and varsity both compete. so all junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders, what were your tryouts like?

well ive been cheering for 5 years all star and school, our tryouts usually consist of jumps, how fast you can learn, and stunting. Not to much tumbling but if you can, you defiantly get some props for that!

hmm. when i tried out for jv last year it consisted of learning a dance ours was 10 8-counts, a cheer which was 2 minutes 45 seconds long, we had to form stunt groups with people we never met before A chant to repeat 3 times and a toe touch and optional jump. we had 3 days to learn it all. it was the same thing trying out for varsity and honestly once i made the team for jv i realized that all of the anxiety was gone. it seems hard but really its not. just try your best, prepare as much as you can and bring it. at my school if you can tumble you automatically make the team but not many people can. so i hope you like my answer and ttyl ive gotta get to tumbling class 🙂

I’ve done cheer for 7 years and my try out’s were pretty basic I just tryed out a few months ago and pretty much what our coach looks for is decent jumps (cause they improve) , people who can learn to stunt fairly fast and people who have great confidence and a good attitude and also who have fun. As for tumbling theres always atleast 3-4 people who know how to tumble so if you can’t that fine , cause I can’t tumble too well but theres 3 people who can on our team so Goood luck

My town, Morgan Hill, is full of great cheerleaders. So it’s kind of hard to make it, especially Live Oak high school. You have all the Raiders there. So it was pretty tough considering that I am a freshman. BUT I was a Raider too, and I had pretty good jumps and a loud voice. They had us remember a cheer, and then a dance. We learned it on Tuesday. Then we go home and practice it Wednesday. And finally we perform it in a group of four in front of the cheer advisors and head captain of Varsity. I was the only one of my group who had made it. Phew!
