You try out for the squad. All squads hold open try outs and you attend one. I am guessing you want to be a cheerleader for a professional team not a professional cheerleader because even the most popular squad in probably the world (Dallas Cowboys) all have other jobs. So in reality they are professionals who are also members of a cheer squad.

    simple…try out
Of course, beforehand, make sure you’re in shape (You’re wasting yours and the judges’ time if you show up with rolls of belly fat…I’ve seen it)
Also, practice your dance moves. Obviously, regular dance moves aren’t going to cut it for learning a routine, but getting your body used to moving with the music will help.
Also, I can’t say this is true for every squad, but with some, if you forget a dance step from the routine, you may still get on if you improvise. The reasoning for this is simple…it’s easy to get nervous performing before a panel of judges but if you look like you’re naturally a good dancer, it’ll show if you improvise and the judges will sometimes take that into consideration.
