1.) Take a tumbling class. It’s always important to be able to tumble when wanting to become a cheerleader. That is one of the main things they do.

2.) Stretch! Even if you feel like it’s painful, it will eventually get less painful the more you do it. Stay in the middle split position while watching your favorite tv show every night. Also you might look on youtube to find some stretching techniques that cheerleaders use.

3.) Once you are flexible, work on jumps. You need to know how to do a toe touch, side hurkey, front hurkey, pike, etc. Again look on youtube for cheer jumps if you are unsure.

4.) Practice spirit & motions. The T motion, V motion, etc.
    Watch your wrist.

You might have to learn a dance routine and cheer/chant. A cheer is different from a chant because it uses different words while a chant just repeats itself. You also might want to workout and lift weights if they make you base/backspot at tryouts. If your little and petite you’ll probably be expected to fly.. so make your you practice balance. Stand on one foot for a few mins etc. Cheer takes a lot of hard work and dedication.. it’s not about being pretty and looking cute in a uniform so make your in good shape.

the first step is finding out if your school has a cheerleading team, or finding an out of school team.
then find out when the tryouts are and what the requirements are. if you’re not up to scratch for the tryouts, join a cheer class, a tumbling class and a dance class and tryout again next year.
