Question by StandStillLookPretty.: at cheerleading try outs i was a flyer now i am positioned as a front base, advice?
I am 5’1 and 99 pounds , i had my first experience with cheerleading and i acually made the team and i was super impressed with myself,
during the try outs i was the flyer the whole time, and i have been positioned as the front base
whats the difference? i know maybe i cant fly because i am not strong enough? maybe i have future potential as a flyer
? or do i stay as a front base?

well what do you like more? personally i think flying would be much more fun. if u want to fly practice jumping high and staying balanced. a good way to practice is a trampoline or on your pool. also maintaining a good figure and staying light-weight is important because you want to go extremely high.

I love front spotting. If you do it right, it can make a HUGE different for your stunt group. Don’t think of it as spotting, think of yourself as a third base. Wrap your hands under and over the flyer’s foot and SQEEZE. You want to keep their foot as stable as possible. If you can’t reach the foot, reach for a comfortable place on the bases’ wrists and help pull up. It helps support the weight and relieve the bases. As far as being a flyer, STRETCH every single day. The more you stretch, the prettier you will be in the air. Also do some ankle strengthening exercises (google it). That will help to stabilize you in the air. You can also buy stability balls made for flyers off of certain websites that help you get used to the feeling. After you get steady on one foot, you can practice pulling stretches. Also, if you are on an allstar team, if you do a competitive stunt group, a lot of people alternate flyers between flying and front spotting because it shows multiple skills for competition. Just do a lot of research on google and stuff and you can find a ton of advice on what muscles to strengthen for flying, front spotting, basing, etc.
