My friend also went to try out for cheer leading. She was also flexible, because she used to do gymnastics. But, she didn’t know how to tumble or do flips at all!

So what you should do is try to join gymnastics. Or attend tumbling classes, which helped my friend A LOT! As long as you know how to tumble and do a cartwheel, your pretty safe.

im n high school u have to have good grades they prefer u have tumbling skills but u don’t have to if u do u get extra pts.from the judges smile alot … we had 3 days to learn the chant, cheer, dance (which they tought us), but ur school might have u come up with them 4th day was the tryout we were put in groups in four , we also practiced stunting but we ended up not doing it at tryouts tried out for freshmen squad but didn’t make it im a soph. now i plan to try out for varsity in april.. im going to be working hard by the way & sometime during my jr. yr get tumbling lessons to get those skills dwn
did u go to the info. mtg. yet?

jumps: toe touch, front hurdler, herkie, tuck, pike (they want them high)
make sure u have precision, nice tight motions not sloppy or broken wrists

req.: ask any present cheerleaders or the coach if u need tumbling if u do end up needing it take a class cuz u can’t perfect them by urself u can get hurt

work out plans : stretch, lift 5 lb. weights? cuz u need strength for ur motions, jumps, and when stunting, running/walking
stretches:sit with legs in a V position, as far apart as you can and lean and stretch at the same time on both sides (lean over left leg, then lean over right leg) also, try reaching your hands out in front of you as far as you can while doing these exercises., butterfly as well.If you do this on a regular basis, you will continue to become more flexible.

meal plan: fruits, veg, sweets every now and then try to stay fit

how to:if u need any tips here are just a few sites i recommend

You should try to stretch *every day.* Even if you are flexible, you want your muscles and body to be at their peak when you try out. There’s a lot to learn, so I’ll go through each section of cheer, and tell you what you can do to prepare for both:

Stunting: This is a team activity, and you can’t do it on your own, so not much you can do here. If you’re tall, you might be a backspot. If you’re mostly muscle, you might be a base, and if you’re good at balancing and flexible, you might be a flyer. The most you can do for this part of cheer is to stretch every day, and do a little weight lifting to keep you solid.

Dance: Flexibility is huge here. You need to be sharp and tight with all of your moves, so you can go to Youtube and search cheer teams. (I recommend World Cup Shooting Stars, just search that–they’re amazing(: ) Watch how sharp they are, and then put your iPod on a really fast song and just dance to it. Make it up as you go along, I do this all the time, and it’s fun, counts as a cardio exercise, and will help prepare you for cheer!

Tumbling: You should try to go to your local gymnastics/all star cheer gym to see if you can take classes/private lessons to get the ropes of tumbling. My gym offers a special high school class designed just for girls trying to make a school team. Check out http://www.usgyms.net
to find a local cheer gym in your area. Just click the ‘Gym Directory” at the top of the screen and select your state. You could as teach yourself by checking out Youtube…

Other than that, make sure you smile and look like you’re having fun! Best of luck!

Go for a tumbling class, it’s pretty easy to start after you get a cartwheel and a round-off ask to be spotted for flip flops, being spotted is easy and at my try-outs you could be spotted at your individual try-out. Also stretch every night and try to get a friend who dances or cheers to teach you a routine to practice catching on to the moves. For try-outs wear a nice fitting top, not tight but not loose. Go for some dark shorts and light plain shirt. Be nice to everyone don’t be a b*tch even to the girls who are. Go to open gyms along with your tumbling so you can practice things you want to be sharp at.
