    Awhim25,
I am grateful for your perspective. Your knowledge of the history of cheerleading needs to be preserved. Please feel free to write what ever you know so other cheer leaders may know their past!

It’s a BIG job!! We had to postpone our tryouts for a week because NOW treatened to picket our tryouts. We had two men show up to practices (they said they had always wanted to be a pom pon girl!) but failed to show up to tryout. hahhahah! FUN memories!! Life well spent…

..About 25 years after the squad’s creation, my daughter, Mikel McCurdy was on the squad and was Captain…a better dancer than I ever was!! My mother made the first few uniforms. Dave Bliss supported the new squad, Jan Lane Warner handled PR with the university and my friend, Debbie Lynch helped me with EVERYTHING ELSE!

At that time it was volunteer and done out of love for the artform!! !!
The Pom Squad was introduced to OU thru the OU Tip-In Club and OU Basketball…and was not recognized by the university until about 5-7 years later. Because it was run privately, we were able to build a great tradition without the red tape of bureaucracy. A year after Barry Switzer asked the squad to perform at football games, the OU powers that be recognized the squad and eventually placed it in the athletic dept

This is a combination of the OU Cheers (red) and OU Poms (white). Nice to see it again!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I have other videos that I still need to upload. I have put these online in the hope that cheerleading will remember its roots and reinvigorate the industry.

These videos are so refreshing. These days you see the same thing over and over again…it’s nice to take a step back and see all the wonderful things cheerleading has had to offer over the last 25 years. Thank you so much for posting these videos!!
