What should I expect at cheerleading tryouts?

Question by Lyndax: What should I expect at cheerleading tryouts?
Hello, school starts in August and I want a headstart on preparing. This is the first time I’d be trying out for cheerleading. I know every school is different, but I just wanted to know the basics that cheerleading coaches covered to test them. What drills would they be doing normally? I’ve been stretching and exercising a lot, in hopes it’ll help me.Thank-you.

I’m a Varsity cheerleader, two years in a row. The judges and coaches are looking for girls with tons of spirit, smiles and respect. You need to be sharp on your motions, smile, and yell like you mean. This year, our training consist of push ups, running a half a mile a day and working up to 2 miles, crunches, jumps, handstands against the wall, things like that. If you are planning to be a flier, (the girl on top of the pyramids and stunts), you need to be super tight while flying. Stretch for at least 10 minutes before you workout, you don’t want to pull anything. Work on typical cheer jumps first, like your toe touches and herkys.
You can also look up cheerleading videos, and tutorials on youtube. Most of all, have respect for the sport. We are competitive ATHLETES, we train and work our butts off. Have fun cheerleading 🙂
