What can i do to prepare for Cheerleading?

Question by JusGus16: What can i do to prepare for Cheerleading?
I have a 4 year cheerleading backround, and a 4 year dance backround, neither of which are competitive. I’m a rising Junior and i would like to do competitive cheer in college, so that gives me one year to prepare for school tryouts and 2 years to prepare for college. Roughly. Any suggestions on what i should master, and know how to do? I can do the basic cartwheel, roll, roundoff etc.. Please help, because this is something i really want and will really work hard for. Please and Thank you !!

It really depends on what college your looking on going to , but you will need to be small, flexible, and strong enough to be a flier if it’s a coed team. And also depending on the college, you will probably need to get at least round off back handspring. But honestly, like I said before, it’s hard to tell depending on the college. But I hope I helped and good luck!!!

Take tumbling classes once a week you might have a hand spring by try-outs if you start out right! And keep doin non competitive cheer to work on your technique and dance skills!

A lot of colleges with competitive teams want back handsprings or higher. The more elite the school’s team the more elite the tumbling & stunts, so you should probably be looking at classes at a nearby all-star gym. If you know what schools you are going to apply to, take a look at their cheer tryout requirements on their website or call the coaches and find out what they are. That way you’ll have a more concrete list of what to work on.

If you want to get a feel for competitive cheer now, though, see about actually joining an All-Star team if you can. You would definitely benefit from the experience.

It depends on the school you’ll be going to and how competitive their team is.
If you’re going to school with an intense cheer program, learn to partner stunt and you need strong running and standing tumbling. The very top schools will require at least a standing tuck and some sort of tumbling pass with a full twisting layout at the end or maybe even a double.
If the school isn’t as intense, maybe still learn to partner stunt but they still don’t have to be elite stunts that you learn and try to get a back handspring and round off back handspring.
    Good luck. =]

Most college cheer teams need you to have a full to be on their team. But in 2 years that may be possible for you. You definitely need a back hand sprang or they will not even consider you. Sorry for being harsh (: So i recommend you going to a gymnastic gym or a cheer gym and take some tumbling lessons. Also, flexibility will be needed so get your splits etc. And they will be looking at your jumps so work very hard on those.

    Gooodluckkk (:
